OMG! What a brilliant movie. But it is definitely NOT for everybody.

First the bad news. Within the first two minutes of the opening of this movie I was regretting that I paid to see it. Understand this: it is about the Russian mafia and is very violent. I can handle the violence in Gladiator and Braveheart, but for some reason there are some parts of this film that made me squirm. The violence works and is not gratuitous. maybe it works too well. And if you don't want to see Viggo Mortensen's twig and berries floppoig around in a full nude scene as he is being attacked by Chechen assassins, don't go. This ain't the Lord of the Rings Viggo. It is similar to the wrestling scene in Borat, but waaaay more impactful.

Now the good news: this is one freaking awesome movie. If you have ever had any dealings with the mafia in Russia, you will see that the way they are portrayed is absolutely spot on!

The dinner scenes with Russian folk songs being sung, Siberian prison tattoos, an Ural motorcycle, young girls duped into the sex trade, and a plethora of other things Russian make this film a must see for those who love Russian films. But be forewarned: it is hardcore! It begins with the death of a 14 year old Russian prostitute in London, and takes you on a wild ride from there when her diary is found.

It is from the same director who did "History of Violence" which also had Viggo as the leading man. If anyone has seen "History of Violence" expect more of the same.

Viggo is the perfect driver. And this is the best movie Ms. Watts has made. It is a very well made movie and that makes it a must see. Do heed warnings about violence--two words: slit throat. Not gratuitous but it is there.

I'll probably check out the movie but I still have yet to see History of Violence.
