I need a good Russian translator for a phone call by 3:00 pm EST time tomorrow. Does anyone have any recommendations?

I'm surprised nobody has replied to this post... Do you speak any Russian? Are you calling to a lady? I know that some of the Dating sites have translators available.

Yes I'm calling a lady who speaks no English and I speak very little Russian. She requested a translator and I didn't call her last week because I didn't have one and she didn't see my email in time telling her I did not have one. So she ended up sitting for quite awhile after work waiting for me to call. Needless to say she wasn't to happy until I explained to her she has to give me more than couple of days notice.

Anyway with work and all I have put it off until the last minute. I do have a number of Russian friends who MIGHT be able to do it depending on their work schedule. On the other hand I'm not quite ready to announce to any of them what I am doing.

I will check out some of the dating sites. Thanks.

I think I saw on Elena's that they can arrange it. You might try to arrange you call for saturday/sunday, it's easier to get some help. You plan for 3-way calling I guess. I wonder wher all our married members are? {mine is not here yet. } I had also heard that Lena (Khashyar's wife) can help with phone conversations but I'm not sure about that. How did you contact your lady, by mail? I'm lucky because I've been learning Russian for a few years so I can understand them fairly well. (but still have problems with grammar!!)

We have been emailing back and forth and it has been growing in intensity once some of my basic concerns were answered, so it is time to take the next step. We are already making plans for me to come in December although she has yet to tell her mom that she has been looking for a foreign husband.

I have yet to tell any of my family members and won't until a young lady steps off the plane as the result of a k1 visa being issued.

Yeah I should have learned Russian a long time ago but I only finally started taking lessons recently. It isn't that bad actually. I have taken Greek, Hebrew, Latin, and Spanish, and with the exception of Hebrew, Latin helped me tremendously with all the other languages, including my native tongue of English. In fact as a result of my Latin studies I have great respect for any foreigner who masters the English language. Sheez, what an inexact language! And I didn't realize how much English grammer I did not not know until I took Latin. Man if I wasn't a native speaker and writer English would be tough!

I keep joking with my Russian friends that one day I'm going to walk in know everything they are saying about me. Well that has now started to get closer.

No one here speaks russian or has a wife/girlfriend that speaks russian? My fiance's nieces live in dallas and speak very good english. I could ask them if they would like to help. Possible problem--I have only called them on their cell phone. I don't know anything about three way calls on cells. Plus, I think it would incur costs on their end because of that. Let me know, but no promises here-just a big maybe.

I'd be interested. As long as the originator of the call has three way calling is not a problem. As to cost it depends on your nieces cell plan. If they are with one of the more well known companies than nationwide long distance is often free depending on their plan, which might only allow a certain number of minutes. I don't think we are going to talk more than 15 minutes max because she pays a fee for incoming international calls.

Let me know if you can help. It would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Ugh! Thanks for asking. I missed it.

Initially I broke down and called one of my church buddies, even though I am not ready for them to know yet, but he was at work.

Then I actually found a translation service (A Foreign Affair) that would do it on short notice but the translator he gave me wasn't answering her phone and the other two were on calls. It would have been expensive ($60 for ten minutes) but better than missing the call for the second time.

Then to make matters worse, I would have been late calling anyway because I was looking at the wrong time clock, Ukraine instead of Moscow, which are an hour apart. We had an hour window, so even with a translator I would have missed her.

So tonight I get to write a short apology letter using a machine translator and hope she checks her email sooner rather than later. And I think some flowers might be in order.

Thanks for the offer of help. I really appreciate it. I will let you know as soon as I can if I will be needing any.

I hope the flowers go by well. Have you thought of trying the reverse? i.e. hiring an Russian who speaks English and going to your lady's house?

The only thing being you would need to get payment to them for their services.

OMG

Why not to call her without any translator so that she could understand you remember and care at least.

Just to hear each other in any language...

Missing the calls is not a good start

Yes I thought of that. Turns out she was not mad at me. She figured something happened. Now she wants to know just how serious I am because she is thinking of quitting her second job to take English lessons. I wonder what folks around here recommend in terms of English lessons. I have started using the Pimsleur program to learn Russian. I wonder if there is an equivalent thing for English. If there is I would be happy to buy it for her.

I got an answer from my fiance's niece. She is open to it but she does go to school so there may be scheduling issues. Also...I am feeling a little fatherly here..I would like to talk to you, so I feel comfortable about it. I don't want to visit Tashkent and catch a bunch of stuff from her parents... Not very likely but I feel protective of her. Hope you understand. PM me if this will help.
