Hi All,

Does anyone know of any bear rescue / protection organisations in Russia? I've found information on some of the main international saites (WSPA, IFAW, etc), but when you want contact details of a local organisation you get nowhere... all they want is a donation! Any help would be appreciated...

Thanks

Why in the world do you want to protect those big brown fuzzy critters?
They seem to be able to protect themselves pretty good here! Are the bears around Ufa pansys??

AKMike, Bing has a pet bear and he is looking for a good home for his bear. :-) Or maybe he is looking for a place to dump Zhanna off at. :-)

Bing: The only one I could find is the Far East of Russia, Khabarovsk Wildlife Rescue Center, they take Brown and Black bears. Contact information:

IMO a cat would make a better house pet. Dogs are great if you're out and about alot, but winters coming and I suspect he'll be indoors more. Bears will just lay around and pretend to be a rug during the colder months..

Thanks Easy.... long story short, but there's a erm "zoo" near me that has a brown bear in a cage that I couldn't stand up in, let alone lie flat in.... broke my heart to see it... it's the worst side of human nature and it was the first time I've ever seen it first-hand. I've got to try and do something....

Ya zoos in Russia are not what they used to be I am assuming. I saw the zoo in Nikolaev and i was not impressed by the conditions.

Bing, Maybe they'd accept some cash to make a bigger cage?

I'll second that. The larger animals like elephants seemed to be underfed. The living conditions were tight but I guess most of the people in nikolaev live under similar conditions.
