Chernobyl yesterday and today

I came across this amateur video and loved it because I don't think I have ever seen any footage of Pripyat before the disaster. I guess that is because it was a secure area. It makes the melt down a little more ominous when one sees the town teeming with life, and how far away he is from Chernobyl when his Geiger counter registers.

no, no...there are a few people in the region who refused to leave, but for the most part it is abandoned. the ironic part is there is some vegetation and animals thriving in the region that scientists never expected to see. i read a brief article about this when i was in kiev this past summer.

Yes the animals seem to be doing well. I didn't see any 6 legged deer or 2 headed donkeys!
