Hey Everyone!
I was just wondering that how did you meet your better half (to be). How many of you met someone first online, through some agency or in person?
I met my boyfriend in Estonia, in a pub (the old fashioned way). He was just on a vacation and it happened that we spent that weekend together most of the time. I was planning to go to the states in summer anyways, so we thought we could visit eachother, but after some time i changed my plans and I went and stayed at his place. We fell in love so seriously that I stayed there for six months and actually just came home for Christmas, knowing that we would be apart only for a few weeks. But it happened that two weeks ago when I went back to USA, I wasn´t allowed to cross the border (the reason was actually their own stupid mistake) but anyway my visa was cancelled and i wasn´t given a new tourist visa. So now we are going after the fiance one, which is cool because we had been talking about the marriage long before that happend to me, just what sucks is the waiting. But we´ll make it, I know we will. Meanwhile I´m continueing my university here and he´s coming to visit me in 2 weeks!!!!!!!
I´m counting the days.
Curious to hear your stories.

PS. Also I´m not Russian nor living in Russia. Found this site just when I was searching for information about K 1. It´s been really helpful. Thank you all for being here!

I met Olya as a pen pal. I was planning on going to Europe for a vacation and always believe that knowing somebody in the country you are visiting was a smart move. We met, feel in love and the rest is history.
Now she is my yin to my yang. She keeps my feet on the ground.

Hello Supernatural,
Just be patient about the K-1.
I met my girlfriend on a mass internet personals website. I had gone to the site to meet American women, but I found out the vast majority of women with profiles are from CIS countries. The site emailed pictures and profiles of women who met my criteria of age and interests and stuff. And there she was one morning when I checked my emails. I immediately paid the monthly fee to email women and the rest is history. I found a Russian girlfriend completely by accident. I contacted only 2 Russian women and 1 Ukrainian woman. I was very (very, very, very, very)lucky. My girlfriend and I hit it off very quickly (one lady I wrote was just not right for me and the other later appeared on the scammer Blacklist).

I had a crash course in Russian culture and tradition, and I am leaving on my first trip at the end of June. We will decide when we meet whether or not to be engaged. I will stay for three weeks. We will take a train to Moscow for a few days and spend a week in a cottage by the river Volga, and the rest of the time in her parents' flat.

I am very optimistic. My optimism is struggling to hold her Russian pessimism in check. She is finally beginning to talk about my arrival as an assumed fact.

That is how I met my girlfriend,
Charles

Well I was bored one day and stumbled across a russian personals site. Thought it would be interesting to have some international pen pals, so I began to write some women. It was very fun and educational. So I continued to write more and more people. On day I wrote a nice woman from Belarus and she wrote me back right away. Her letter stood out like a sore thumb, caught my interest immediately. Being the type that get's bored fairly easy and has very little patience for boring people, she was able to hold my attention from the very start. We began to exchange emails much more frequently. Soon I wanted to call her to see what she was like on the phone. That first phone call was 2 1/2 hours. Non stop conversation about everything and anything. Again, she was very good about holding my attention and I hers. The calls increased, the emails and letters increased and 6 months later I was visiting her. And then again 2 1/2 months later. We are now happily engaged and are waiting on a Fiance Visa. I can't imagine my life without her.

I met my husband outside the train station in Pushkin, a suburb of St Petersburg.

The short story is that Natalya and I met through an introduction agency.

For the more 'detailed version', you can read this thread.

Totally by accident for me. Hadn't even thought about a Russian g/f but i talked on ICQ (1-2-1 chat program for those that don't know) a lot to people from all round the world and had put in a search for people interested in Football (Soccer to any Yanks tuning in ) and she was one i messaged offline.

Following day she replied (tho she admits she didn't normally talk to strange blokes online but she made an exception in my case lol) We chatted for a few months about Football and general chat and after about three months i invited her to spend Christmas with me as she was living by herself at the time (Her Dad was working as a Diplomat in Africa along with her Mum) and it just developed from there. We're hoping to get married within the next few months after knowing each other for almost 2 years.

I first met my husband 5 years ago when he lived with my family as a foreign exchange student for a year while the both of us were still in high school. We did not get along at all then, but my family took a vacation to Russia a few years later to visit him, and that is when we met again. After a 3 week vacation there, we decided that we couldn't be without each other, and I moved to Russia where we married last July !

I met my first Russian GF (from Ryazan) at the friend finders site where I also encountered many internet scammers. I responded to her ad and we communicated via email for 6 months before we finally had our first meeting in Moscow in May of 2002. The relationship fizzled-out after 6 months.

I met my current Russian GF (from Yoshkar-ola) via Elenas Models website. We corresponded via email and telephone for 2 1/2 months before we finally had our first meeting in Moscow last August 2003. I am scheduled to visit her and meet her family in Yoshkar-ola this coming March.

First background infomation:
I have an international education, where I meet people from many countries. Have studied in Iowa. Especially here I meet many Russian and I was breath taken by them, for many reasons.
because of my international education I wanted a job in another country, if not I wanted some international in my home/family. So I did start to visit agencies, for this purpose, to find a wife. It took 4 attemps before, I hopefully succed and get married this summer with my dream girl.

in jest....I've never seen so many guys tripping over each other to respond to a thread initiated by a beautiful young woman

Anyone else get this impression?

Posted by: ConnerVT

NO, it couldn't be. For I am not supposed to respond to any beautiful young women except for one in particular.

Posted by: Pin Boy

Hi

Like that Tallin city - the meaning of it.

Posted by: supernatural

Ha ha....
has anyone been here?

Posted by: Jutman

No, sorry. I don't.

My list of countries I have visited:
Sweden, Norway, Germany, Belgium, Holland, France, Austria, Hungary*, Italy, Cezch Rep, Russia and USA. Soon Poland.

*when is was under communist control back in 88'.

Maybe we better explain, why its was funny.

In Tallin- Denmark got our flag for almost 800 years ago. And Tallin should be translated into something like 'the city of danes' (Taani Linn).

From Tallin city homepage:
According to the Chronicle there was a battle at the location of future Tallinn on June 15, 1219 where the Danes got a difficult victory. The legend says that the battle luck turned its face to the Danes after a red flag with a white cross fell from the sky—the Danneborg, the state flag of Denmark today.

In connection to this tread, there is one thing I am little surprised over.
I can't remeber I have encountered somebody here or at other forums where they meet as a exhange student /being an au-pair.

When I studied many studenst fall in-love with somebody from other another country. Some got married.

That was my 1st trip to the FSU. The mushroom soup at Olde Hansa is as good as it gets. One of my best friends has his girlfriend from there here now. Her and my wife from Ukraine are good friends. Do you ever go to VS or Hollywood? I just remember those two clubs. I still have friends there. It's a small world. Do you know Joseph Tinn? LOL

I have been to:
Canada, USA (28 different states), Mexico (25 different states), Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Panama, Colombia Venezuela, Brazil, Chile, Bolivia, Argentina, Peru, France, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, and Austria. Never to the FSU. Maybe this year!
Most beautiful girls award: Brazil by far!

I´ve been almost all around Europe and different places in USA. It´s a shame that I haven´t been to Russia yet. My mom promised me that when I get older she would take me there (they went with dad when i was 5) but well, that time hasn´t come yet. How old did she think I should be for that, I wonder
He he anyways.....my favourite place so far.....Monaco!!! Would live there any time......and Spain (Barcelona).......
My favourite place in the states........hmmm.......New Orleans, of course!!! Let the party begin........

But Estonia is really beautiful place....only if any of you is thinking of visiting, then I´d suggest to come here during summer...you´d enjoy it the most.

Posted by: supernatural

Olde Hansa is the place to go!!! You are not the first one whom I hear about the mushroom soup from. One of my best friend´s is working there.

I´ve been to VS-not exactly a club, but it´s a hip place.
Never been to Hollywood, as I´m not much of a club person. But My very close friend met her boyfriend (from UK) there-----so good things are happening everywhere

Dont know Tinn))

what places you liked the most about TAllinn. just asking to get some new ideas of restaurants, places to take my boyfriend next week. Sometimes, when you are used to living in this wonderful city, you tend to take things for granted, so i might miss something good.....

I remember a place called Tunnel near the X club that was very good and unique. I was totally in shock with everything so I didnt expore as much as I should've. I stayed at the Mickli hotel for 10 days. Are you in Tallinn now? My friend owns a message parlor there. The guy that used to manage VS is now living in Georgia and working for a friend of mine in the industry. Funny you mentioned New Orleans. I was there last week. I loved it. I also went to Parnu when I was in Estonia. I'll get some more info tonight on where to go and I'll let you know. We're having dinner with our friend from Tallinn.

Pärnu is the summer capital of Estonia. I was born there and attended high school there.

At the moment I´m back in Tallinn as i wasn´t allowed to cross the border at Houston 3 weeks ago. We are applying for the K1 and as it takes forever, I´ve decided to continue my studies at university.

Right now I´m looking for a nice restaurant here in Tallinn to go to on Valentine´s Day with my boyfriend.

Why were you shocked?

Hello SN,

JUst read a list in Rolling Stone of the five coolest cities and Tallin was on the list, pretty cool for you, I imagine? OLd buildings being turned into new clubs was the highlight. Next year it'll probably be on the five least hottest spots if it gets too much publicity like Ibiza has.

Pin Boy

Sorry for the off topic post

I met my fiancee at a social on a tour last summer. Not for everybody but I enjoyed it and would recommend it to an outgoing person who is good at conversation and would like the opportunity to meet many woman.

Posted by: Greg in Ga

I had never been out of the USA until then. As you well know things are a little different there. I'm from a small town in Georgia so you can probably understand where I'm coming from. So what you're saying is you flew to Houston and then had to fly back. If you were in Houston all any INS officer would have to do is walk outside and they would see at least 5o people that were here as illegal aliens. Thats a shame. Keep in touch. I should introduce you to Joseph. He's a cool guy. He was here a few summers ago. He actually went with me to Ukraine to see my wife the 2nd time I met with her. He's well connected there in Tallinn. He knows everyone. Well I gotta go for now. Stay in touch.
