Are women from the fsu religious ?
I know this is a big question but all the ladies say that they are Christians and I am worried that my own simple notion that God exists may dissapoint a woman because I am not religious .
Is religion a major element of Russian culture and psyche ?

is all american religious?
The same question about Russia. But in generel, no.
However you have to look at the profile and ask her. Russia is a big country with several religions. Some are moslems, some are buddist and some are catholics, some are ateist and some are ortodox, some more than others.
But I would say its not a big worry for you.

I think they put Christian because there's no place to click Othordox.
Yes, most women are religious in the FSU. ( I think more from peer pressure, than any thing else) You need to ask them there views and go from there.
You also need to remember that "hell and damnation" doesn't really apply in the FSU. (most think they are in hell) I have never met anyone who was a "bible thumper" in Russia. But that's me.
My GF is religious and I'm agnostic, she understands me and I understand her. It's not a issue to us.
Do a search, there are other post on this matter.

Don't know where you got the idea "most women are religious in the FSU" but you are not correct. Most people (women included) are NOT religious. Exceptions are grandmas. I base my statement on my 15 years of experience teaching Russians and Ukrainians and my 5 year marriage to a Russian and my knowing his family and friends and my many times to Russia.
I am by no means saying they are not spiritual, nor am I saying I think they don't beleive in a higher power (God, if you please) I am saying they dont beleive in organized religion, nor do they go to church. There is a resurgence in interest in Orthodoxy and there is the availability of a broad spectrum of "other" organized religions proselytizing but by no means is the majority of people religious.

I'm sorry myshka, I used the word "religious" as a slang word and you didn't understand it. (my bad)
If you ask most Americans "are you religious?" they will say "yes". Even though they will not attend church, nor will they have anything to do with organized religion. In America religious means pretty much what you said. "spiritual"
Now if Russians were not religious, why in the world would most ads that feature FSUW have a place to state your religion and most ads do make a statement to a religion?
I means if your not religious then why make that statement, don't hide behind a "oh let me say I am so everybody likes me" B.S.
Now if you were not religious, you would be atheist. Which more or less means you believe when you are dead, your dead. That's it, nothing else happens. Then we have agnostic, but they could be counted as religious, because they believe something happens but they have no idea what it is. (that's a personal call) I'm agnostic, but I base my understanding of death on the "energy theory" that Isaac Newton did.
P.S. Thank you for biting my butt on this, but make sure you understand the whore statement before you bite next time.

Your are right that many sites ask the lady this question. But forget to get detail information about it.
However one important reason to why they ask, is that Russia is a multi religious country. And I have encountered men and ladies who specific wanted a person from the same church.
I don't know how the catholic church and the moslem behave but the ortodox church don't allow a wedding unless you BOTH are member of the church. And I have on the net read about few men who have convertet, so they could be married in the church (after zags).

I understand what you are saying and agree with you.
From what I have read and from my understanding (opinion) with the older religions you both need to be a member to get married with them at the respected church. (older religion= Roman Catholic, Othordox, Moslem, Jewish ....) The newer religions don't have a problem with it. (Baptist, Lutheran ......)
Which puts me back to what I first said "You need to ask them there views and go from there."

i guess i dont understand how the word religious is slang? I have lived in the US for 40+ years and dont understand that slang.
"Now if Russians were not religious, why in the world would most ads that feature FSUW have a place to state your religion and most ads do make a statement to a religion? an you explain it to me?"
Your quote, yes i can explain it to you, easily. Like it or not, these websites that feature ads are no different from websites that are selling things. Their business is finding men for the ladies they post ads for. So the advertising techniques are the same as when you are trying to sell anything. You find what will appeal most to the market they are trying to reach. So knowing that "most" American men and European men would define themselves as "religious" they add a category for religious affiliations. The definitions there are narrow, usually Christian, Orthodox , Muslim, Judiaism or Other. The women check what they want. And as you probably know, most of the agencies "help" with that process... so there is your answer. I am n ot trying to argue with anyone, I just wanted to know where you got the fact that MOST women are religious in the FSU, that is all.

Why, the answer is simple: to hedge their bets, in case when the final end comes, and there is a God, that looking back through the database they can say they checked the appropriate box on the form!
