Taxi from Moscow airport?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Hello everyone,
I have a question. Does anybody have some experiences with taxis from Moscow airport (SVO2) to the centre of the city (prices, good or bad experiences)?
I will be in Moscow at the end of next month and want to use a taxi but first I want to hear your opinions about this before I will lose a lot of money......

Bye!
Daan

Here is the situation:

300-500 roubles (10-15 bucks) = to the center at daytime
$70-100 = to the center at night (because there are no buses or Gazelles-small buses)

If you want to stay safe then, first of all, try to arrange the exact time for a Russian person to meet you at the airport, otherwise taxi managers will easily see that you're not Russian and ask for a triple fee. (A taxi manager is the person who hangs around where the taxis are parked and leads the passengers to the cars).

And don't take a ride with a Caucasian driver. 'Caucasian' doesn't mean 'white', it means from Caucasus - with dark hair, big nose, thick eyebrows, and they have much more hair on their faces overall. They're dangerous because they never care, if they will want to kill or rob you they will. All Russians have lighter hair and regular noses and less hair on their faces.

Hi

The prices from SVO is higher, than if you find taxi in the center.

At waytorussia, you should be able to book a taxi to a lower price. But I dont know how good they are. Once I tried to book, they never replied.

Contact the hotel you are staying at. Most have service to do a pick up at the airport.

Probably my Russian GF will wait for me when I arrive. So this problem is solved and she will try to get a taxi for us. Thanks for your ideas and advices!
Now I only need a taxi from the center for my outward journey (without my GF because she will leave Moscow sooner than me). I've read that taxis from the center may not drop you off at the airport? Only the taxis which are "connected" with the airport are allowed to come near?? I wonder if this is true.....
Greetings Daan!

"Moscow Rick" has a private driver that will get you either way for about $25 USD. He's safe, reliable, and fun.

Uncle Pasha will do the same thing:

Have fun.

Olya always arranged a taxi for me and it always cost 600 rubles from SVO to the Moscow Unversity area south of the center.

Moscow Rick is great, this guy I enjoyed communicating with. It is nice for someone who understands what I want without any language barriers.

Great guy!

Will tell you about service later but I feel very comfortable with him.
