It's a bit geeky to know this. But the Death Star didn't own the Death Star. His own vessel was an advanced TIE fighter.

No, No..he really owned it but it was hidden behind many levels of Hoth development corporations for tax purposes. Tax on a Tie fighter peanuts compared to the death star!! They may be evil but they are not stupid.
