Trying to get married in Russia

I've just been speaking to my fiancee, and the office where she lives, in Stary Oskol said they will only accept Russian translations that have been translated in London, this is very strange and doesn't make sense!

I spoke to the British Embassy in Moscow this morning and they said that they can translate and certify documents which will be valid for marriage anywhere in Russia, so I don't understand why the office in Stary Oskol are telling her this?!

Also I have had problems trying to understand the advice on the website of the Russian consulate in London, and when I call or email them they do not explain what I need to do. They also charge too much, for instance, for a document to be notarised will cost £22 and they also charge £50 for an attorney, I have no way of knowing whether they could do this in one day.

My fiancee is very upset now and is not confident that we will be able to marry. Although I am more confident, as I know that the British Embassy know what they are doing.

I would like some advice urgently please,

Thanks

Hi

yes, its true. Go read my posts. But it can be done, just read the instructions given. Its a difficult task to get married in Russia. On several occasions I/we have been told: Don't get married in Russia. Its to difficult. - I have to agree
About the money part. YES, its expensive. My cost now is around 500Ј in paperwork and with what? no, marriage.

So I wish you good luck and have a ocean of patience.

Just out of interest why do you want to get Married in Russia?? I assume because she might struggle to get a Fiance/Marriage Visa here? Reason i'm asking is because me and Vera are hoping to be married in the next few months. She's always been issued a Visa to visit me so i'm assuming because of this there's a good chance we can do it without too many problems (Famous Last Words).

Hi

Why?
a) because she wanted to. For her it would be perfect with her friends and family around her.
b) It did fits our plan very good. We wanted to get married in october or no later than december in Russia. Then home and apply for a 'permentent residence for' her. It fits good, since she finish Univeristy May and I have holiday from middle of June.
c) If she come to Denmark and we get married, this time where we apply for this 'permanent residence', she can't start a language school or work.

NB: She has visit me one time
