Just finished watching the news over here in the UK and here seems to be a lot of hype about David Beckham moving to LA Galaxy, seems like lot of over exposure for the guy who is entering into a sport that in the usa is not really that popular!!!

The question is , is there a lot of coverage on the news about this in the USA, and what do you guys think about it?

The news reports seem to focus more on the fact that his Spicey wife is arriving here. Not much caring about professional sports in general, the first thing I take notice of in the story is that she does have a nicer shape than a soccer ball!!!

She is made from the same material as a cheap football tho; and her head contains just as much empty space.

Seattle got short-changed the first time Beckham came to the US. The Manchester-Glasgow Celtic match here sells out in advance, then Beckham gets traded to Real Madrid a couple of weeks before he was supposed to come here.

And we get short-changed the second time, too. Our team, the Sounders, is in a totally different league than the LA Galaxy. So no Beckham here, this time, either.

Quite ironic, since Seattle is more into soccer than most places in the US. Especially with many people from Northern England and Scotland living up here, who are die-hard "football"(as they say in everywhere but the US) fans.

Excuse me, the fan base for the sport is too high here, to be called "minor league".....it's one thing for Dallas(a bigger city, but with a less likely group to be soccer fans)to be in the "big" league....but "Real" Salt Lake??

And, despite good turnouts at the games, and a bunch of foreigners(Irish, Brits, Brazilian, Russian, etc.)living in the Bay Area, who like soccer, the San Jose Earthquakes owners changed the team name, and moved it somewhere back east. So no northern california team, either.

A good case for realigning the leagues in the U.S.......

Beckham will certainly help soccer's profile in the USA.......but it is up to the owners to make some marketing sense of their own.

P.S., the upcoming Spice Girls comback tour was badly timed.......just when Americans were figuring out that Beckham is not just the "Spice Guy", and truly one of the all-time greats.........

Which raises an interesting question for me... why do we call our version of rugby "football" when the feet are so rarely used? Can you remember the last time a drop kick was attempted in American football? The feet are used more for adverts than anything else!

Why do you call a male friend "mate"? Is there a closeted desire to that act?
What is a banger? Do you use it to hit a drum before you eat it?
Drive? You call that driving? What in the world were you thinking of when you build the turn-arounds? It's a melee bent on suicide!
LMAO
You're a good chap... now put some lotion on it before it becomes a rash!

I have asked that question many times Longfellow never had anyone yet give me a proper answer on it

In fact if you search on here it has been mentioned in other threads about how long football has been around compared to your US Rugby style and also of course the 'foot' question. ,

Yes the last drop kick in a regular season or playoff game was by Doug Flutie of the New England Patriots. It was also the last game of his career. He successfully made the drop kick.

Thankyou for proving my point on you Amercans totaly misunderstanding the Queens english!!! lol

"You're a good chap" lmao

On a serious note ,this reminds me of numerous conversations with my wfe about the use of the english language, while studying english in Russia they would recommend a lot of books to read and she would be reading something and ask me to explain a word or a sentance and put it into context. I would always laugh and ask her why she was reading this book as it was written xx amount of years ago and this sort of language was not present day english.....why do these english classes insist they read books written in the late 19th century when it no longer reflects the volcabulary currently used????????

Rambling again.......
