Russian word for "Shadow"?

I am looking for the Russian word or words for "Shadow".

Please help.

Also is there a recommended English to Russian dictionary out there that shows not only the Cyrillic spelling but also the English spelling of the word?
I'd love to get my hands on a book like that. The only one I can find just shows translation to Cyrillic.

Thanks.

It would be тень( if you speak about light) or it could be оттенок ( if you speak about color) I presume

(but you should also put some examples of sentenses for better understanding)

I have got, in my little book 'shadow' having a similar meaning with 'shade' and translated as 'тень' in Russian, or phonetically, 'tyen'.

In UK, we have Lonely Planet Phrasebooks and they are excellent pocket books with phonetic equivalents. They are good although they may not have all the words you are looking for. ISBN 1-74104-151-1, Cost Ј4.99

Hope this helps

Sorry about that. I meant "shadow" as in dark or shade or lack of light.

For example: He lurked in the shadow.

PROMT has it forward and backward as тень... tyen

translate.google.com is really getting better at translating English -- Russian and vice-versa.
I was translating huge paragraphs the other day and then did the reverse of the translation and it was about 95% accurate.

Their French translation is almost flawless.
