I first wrote to Viktorija in October 2005 and joined RMP about the same time. And, for those of you who have followed my story, you’ll know that it’s been a bit of rollercoaster ride.

Back in October 2005, I spent an entire weekend going through a couple of thousand profiles and, finally, came down to a shortlist of 10. Viktorija was one of them. Unfortunately however, I first went for a good looking dentist in Kiev, but got skanked by Anastesiaweb who pretended to be her and faked replies to my correspondence (for which, of course, I was paying). No such problem with Viktorija though and once our correspondence got going a month or so later, she became the only one I was writing to and, by Christmas, I knew instinctively that, there would be no turning back.

How lucky can you be? From virtually the first out of the hat and we are going to be married this autumn.

I’ve been out to Siberia five times to see her (usually on shoestring budgets) and on the sixth occasion, three months ago, we met up in St. Petersburg for, what was a wonderful holiday together. And, it was at this stage that, we knew, we didn’t want to be apart from each other any longer.

So, getting to the point; Viktorija has now received her fiancé visa and collected her air tickets and she, & 4 year old son Ilya, arrive here in the UK next Tuesday, at the start of our new lives together. I’m flying out to Germany on Tuesday morning to be there when she changes planes. I just cannot explain what a wonderful feeling this is. Clichéd it may be, but it’s really a dream come true!

I want to thank everyone on RMP (and Chris in particular) who contributed to my threads and gave advice, especially when things looked like going tits up last summer. We have had to come to terms with a 25 year age difference, which hasn’t been easy (and for those on RMP who are thinking about it, it really can be done). I think that, because Viktorija is already into her 30’s, it has made things a little easier. However, I have purposely taken my time over matters (more than 18 months), just to be absolutely sure.

I’ll post here, up to our meeting next week

Here’s a couple of Photos, both of her and me with Ilya, taken in St Petersburg a few weeks ago. I’ll post some more in the photos during the week and in the gallery.

Great news Vic, I am probably more up to date with this than most and I am glad I was able to help out last year when you were going through hell, but that is what we are all here for, at the end of the day you two have done this together, you are a good guy Vic and I for one am really glad it is all finally working out for you.

Next Tuesday when you are welcoming Viktoria, I will be moving to a new house, I am sure I will have time to spare a little thought for you and I am sure you two will have a great future ahead of you, I know the trials and tribulations you have both gone through, but remember, good things come to those that wait, I am glad I could help a little when it really mattered and will always be grateful for your appreciation of that.

Have a great life together

Chris

Well i seen the picture you posted and you seem like a good couple to me.
I am 12 years older than my wife and believe me I hear it from my friends but if I always listened to family or friends i wouldn`t have the great wife I am married to or the business that is doing pretty good.

Well done

Congrats and wishing you a long, happy, and healthy life together.

Congrats Vic! Wonderful news!! Yes I have read a lot of your story and I am glad that it has had a happy ending.

Now the REAL work begins!!!

Best wishes to the three of you for a wonderful life together!!!!

This is certainly a time of your life journey to celebarate you both ready to create a new life together. Awesome stuff

I would like to thank everyone for their kind remarks and support.

I also have a very supportive family. My mum can’t wait to meet Viktorija & little Ilya. And my daughter, who is a year older than her, is quite intrigued and hopes to become good friends.

Viktorija has started a round of meeting friends to say goodbye, but she is very upbeat and exited.

I was thinking; she has spent her whole life in the city, so I wonder what she will make of living in sleepy little Beccles?

If Ilya loves it, she will love it. Besides you're not too fare from Norwich.

Posted by: Ade

Vic,

Don't worry about Beccles, it can't be that bad Seriously mate, you've jumped the highest hurdle, now it's all 'normal' problems - and you're both adults who've faced them before, so you at least know how to approach them.

Good luck to you all,

Ade

Posted by: swindoom

The biggest hurdle maybe in the past but the second biggest is coming very soon, the culture shock of changing countries. Where I live 50% of the Russian women I know hate the place and 50% love the place but it seems to be related to how good their relationship are. The women with bad relationships tend to hate the place, the ones with good relationships tend to love the place. I think when you are unhappy and bored things annoy/irritate you more.

Posted by: Chrismc

Beccles may be a lot smaller than what she is used to but Norwich is only around 20 miles away, Ipswich 40 ish miles, me thinks you may be showing her her some of these. I am sure if she and the young un are happy with you then it won't be a problem at all.

Posted by: AJROOK

Congrats on your accomplishments Vic!!
I love hearing how it all worked out and now you both have a new start to share together. It is great motivation for us who are just begining.

All the Best Vic!!

Andy

I’ve been away for the last three days earning some money. I’m back home now. It’s Sunday night and it’s just 24 hours before Viktorija leaves for the airport.

I spoke with her earlier and she is half packed and still very excited. Tomorrow she has to move her larger belongings out. Television, hifi, computer table, boxes of books etc. And I’ve got a full days work preparing the house here, for her arrival.

Does anyone know about baggage allowance on Aeroflot? Their website says 20kgs per person, but you get an extra 20 kgs if you are an Aeroflot gold mileage club member and an extra 10kgs if you are a silver member. You can join the mileage club online and become an instant member (but you wont get a card until you have completed 500miles). So, if she joins, online, tomorrow, does she get the extra baggage allowance?

I can call Aeroflot, but I’m not so sure that I’ll get the right answer.

Thanks for the tips about her moving to a little town. I was more curious than concerned. I’ve promised to get her a little runabout from the car auctions. So if she gets the hang of driving on the left, she’ll be able to run herself into Norwich when she wants.

I’ll keep you posted on developments.

And here's the penultimate set of photos of us.

Vic,

I am glad its going well for you, from what I see, heard and read you have struck gold and will do OK.

I wish we had had more time to chat when we met in Manchester at the meal.

Olya and I wish you all the very best of luck in your forthcoming adventure. There will be times when you feel like banging your head on the wall but persevere and it will come right.

We all want to read about another success story in a few months.

Manny.

Posted by: vic2012

Well it's a case of 'almost here' rather than 'almost there'. I spoke with her as she boarded her flight, just a few minutes ago.

She's on her way!!!

Wow!!!

Vic, WELL, is she there yet?!! We are all sitting on the edge of our seats!! Have FUN
Rocky

Posted by: vic2012

You know? This is the first chance I have had to write. Its been so hectic and my life has changed dramatically.

Ilya started school today and Viktorija is sitting in on the class, as Ilya's English is zero!

The journey from Omsk turned out to be a nightmare, but thats a story for another time.

We spent the first day looking around. We have a Tesco supermarket store just 200 yards up the road. She liked that. Then we drove into Lowestoft (a large fishing port) which is just 15 minutes away, where she was introduced to the delights of the Pound shop!!! We came away with two huge bags of goodies.

Yesterday we walked down to the river, which forms part of the famous Norfolk Broads. We saw all the boats moored and discovered a large adventure playground for Ilya.

I can say that Viktorija seems very happy and things do look very promising!

I'll write soon, but I just wanted to say that all is well.

BTW. When Viktorija checked in in Omsk, her baggage was 17 kilos over. Aeroflot wanted 7000 rubles in excess baggage charges.
So I quickly went into the Aeroflot website and enrolled her onto the Aeroflot Bonus Scheme. I got an instant membership number. As membership of this scheme allows you to an extra 10 kilos of baggage, I called her and gave her the membership number. She quoted it to the check-in staff, who confirmed that, she was indeed, a member and reduced the charge to 2700 rubles. All this happened in the space of just four minutes!!!
That little enterprise saved the best part of a hundred quid.

Thats something to remember when your girl travels out of Russia.

Vic,

Mrs Manny is flying overweight out of Manchester tomorrow with Aeroflot.

She just signed up for the card as suggested but our reading suggests you dont get the silver status allowing you to the extra 10kgs until you have done 25k miles with them? So new membership would not give you this?

Do you have a link to a special offer or something allowing this for new members?

Posted by: vic2012

I posed the question about baggage earlier in this thread. But no one was able to help. So when Viktorija called from Omsk airport and said Aeroflot wanted 7000 rubles in excess baggage charges, I took a chance and enrolled her. I got an instant membership number, which I told her and in turn, she told the check in staff in Omsk. They accepted that she was a member of the bonus club and recalculated the charge and came up with 2700 rubles. It seems too easy, so you are probably right, Manchester; maybe we were just lucky.

Everything is settling down here after five days. Viktorija is very happy. Ilya has already started school. We both love each other and she loves Beccles! From my house, it’s only a hundred yards down to the quay, which is such a beautiful place to sit and relax and there’s a big children’s playground there.

We were at the beach again today (that’s just 15 minutes away). Of course, Ilya has never seen the sea. And Viktorija thought the view was stunning. She is now admitting that, the situation here is far better than she had ever anticipated.

So everything is looking good. And long may it last!

Posted by: Manchester

I shall just be my usual obstructive argumentative self if they try to charge her excess baggage tomorrow. I shall argue there was an ......er...... "special offer" to new sign ups on the Russian Aeroflot site giving one 10kg extra througout July. I suspect they will take the line of least resistance.

Posted by: Chrismc

Good to hear things are off to a good start Vic

he he they probably never know what 'Specials' Aeroflop give out anyhow If they argue tell them it was a 'Special Offer' for Mrs Manny's ONLY!

Posted by: Manchester

So she trimmed her baggage down a bit into her handbaggage, (you cant tell her!) which then comprised three items rather than the usual one.

The check in was 28kg and they said nothing anyway!

But she now has an Aeroflop card anyway.

Sorry to hijack your thread Vic.

Posted by: vic2012

Well, we are coming to the end of week two together and guys, it’s been sheer bliss. OK so she’s chucked half my wardrobe away and made some fundamental changes to my living habits. But she’s talking about what we can buy for the house when we go to Russia later this year. So all in all, it’s looking good and reasonably permanent.

She loves having the Broads at the bottom of the street. We’ve walked down to the Quay and wandered about many times already. As I said earlier, there’s a great child’s playground there, where I can act out being the young athletic dad, running around with Ilya and then hiding from Victoria whist I gulp for air!

What have I let myself in for? A few sessions at the gym is definitely called for.

The photo gallery doesn’t seem to accepting uploads at the moment. So here’s a pic of Victoria and Ilya at the Quay. (I dreamt about this for over a year and here she is, standing at the end of my street in person, at last).

Once again, thanks guys for your good wishes. I'm glad you liked the picture. Yes, she's 6 foot tall and all legs!

I must say that, I regard myself as extremely lucky to find such a wonderful and great looking partner so late in my marital career.

It certainly does. I'm 99.9% certain that, she's genuine. Its those little touches she does and slipping her hand into mine when we are out walking. And many other subtle gestures that, I dont think she would do if she was only here for the short term.

Ilya is making great progress and is now at school without mum, during the day.

Oh yes, LJ, you got the wrong end of the stick:

It's all about image. See previous posts about running up five stories, in Omsk, carrying Ilya (and, quietly, almost passing out). I dont know how long I can keep it up (so to speak, trying to be the adonis that, unfortunately, I'm not!), but I'll do my best not to break the illusion!!!

Nice Broad!

Posted by: vic2012

Just to say that, because I thought home sickness might be a problem, I worked with Victoria (she’s Anglicised her name now), to find some activity that still had Russia as an important part of it.

Obviously web-sites seemed the place to look. Searching in Cyrillic, she soon found a Russian based site, centred on London. Russianlondon.ru. So now she can chat to other women in the UK over the Internet.

And, having broadband is great, as it’s online all the time. Something she never had before.

So Chris, to answer your question in the “cropping” thread, she was online after one day, let alone two weeks!!!

And, yes Stevo, she definitely is!

Posted by: j_c

Hi Vic

You might want to direct your wife to bratok.co.uk - my wife very rarely goes on the internet , but this is her first stop, cannot comment on the content as its all russian!!!

Vic: I don't know what Victoria's English skills level is but have you thought about her attending the local Uni to improve her English. Or maybe she would like to take a class in a different subject area?

By the way I like tall woman too -- does she have a sister?

Posted by: vic2012

Just wanted to let you all know that we've set the date.

11th August in Lowestoft. Then it'll be Mr & Mrs D and son!

Why hang about? We've got visas to get!

I said early in this thread that, it was a dream come true. But it just gets better and better! She loves it here and cant get over the fact that the locals here acknowledge her and smile and nod as she passes.

Posted by: vic2012

Hi Easy, Yes she has a sister, but she's spoken for! But believe me, I got the best one. In that picture on the quay, wearing those shoes, she comes up at over 6'2. I thought I was tall at 6 foot.

She is going to enrol in classes in Septemeber. They're heavily subsidised and cost about £2 a session. Seems like a good deal. And Ilya is just starting to come out with phrases in English. It's all looking good.

Congratulations Victor! It is so refreshing to hear these words on this forum knowing that the two of you have really spent time together and appear to want to be together.

Congratulations to all of you (Vik & Vik + Ilya)

If her command of English is not great, has the registrar pointed out that you will need an interpreter and the interpreter has to be one of the witnessess. If the registrar decides to follow the rules to the letter, she may refuse to conduct the service if she thinks Victoria is not fluent enough, not only to reply to questions but to be able to understand what she is being asked.

Posted by: EasyTarget

Vic: No question you got the better sister. Congrats on setting the day, best to both of you in the future.

Thanks again all.

We had an interview this morning with the registrar in Colchester to give notice and make our declarations (of eligibility). Victoria understood everything. Her English language has come on in leaps and bounds over the last eighteen months (hundered of hours of telephone calls). Thanks for the warning though, Swindoom.

It was a very happy moment for us. The registrar could see it and told Victoria more than once what a wonderful couple we made! We walked out of there with big smiles, as if we had just got married.

Just to fill in the detail of Marriage in the UK. It is now against the law to get married in the UK if you are a visitor from abroad. We had to go to Colchester (as a main register office) for Victoria to have her fiancé visa examined. Only then were we allowed to give notice. Notice is a 15 day statutory period that you must wait, whilst your intention to marry is announced, allowing time for any objections. That takes us to 10th August (and that’s just one day to spare to the 11th)!

Happy days!!!

Posted by: Rockyof Florida

All the best to the both of you and your new son. I hope you have many happy years together!!!!

Posted by: vic2012

Thanks Rocky.

Victoria met my brother and sister for the first time yesterday and they all got on very well, thank goodness.

Yesterday was the annual village carnival in Bonsall Derbyshire. Victoria has seen nothing like it. Maypole dancing, Morris dancers, Village Green events and the most spectacular scenery around (The Peak District).

I invested in a couple of National Trust annual passes. And our first outing was to Keddleston Hall in Derbyshire ( see photo).

It's been another wonderful weekend.

Posted by: GoingToRussia

hey Vic, your cheeks must be sore from smiling for a week or 2 now. Does it disappear when you sleep!

Maypoles in July??? Isn't that why they call them MAY poles, because you use in May? Maybe the UK is farther behind in hours then I thought!

Very happy for the 3 of you!

Hey GTR time really does fly, it's almost a month already....and in answer to your question, definitely NOT.

I do my own Photoshop thanks, Longfellow. And believe me, if I was any good, I wouldn't have a paunch!!!

She loves old houses Chris (I think she likes anything old!!)

The NT passes are great, these's so many places to go.

And as for 19th Century Derbyshire. Here's Victoria's photo of Bonsall where we stayed for the weekend.

What does she think of the English countryside Vic?

Posted by: vic2012

What does she think of the countryside? This is a good question Chris. All my efforts have been to show her what a wonderful guy I am! And, I’m succeeding, even if it may not be completely true. But I’m beginning to understand now, just how important the environment here, is to her too.

As you know, I live on the Broads, so scenery wise, I couldn’t have wanted a better start. Then we visited Derbyshire which she really loved. She’s emailing so many landscape photos back to her sister, so the countryside has obviously made a strong impression.

It is just so different from Omsk. In fact, it’s become a major contributing factor for her. She loves it here!

Anyone else got any thoughts on this subject?

Posted by: GoingToRussia

Well I e-mailed photos of my gardens showing flowers and tomato plants. I also included a photo of a rabbit in my yard. She got a big smile and enjoyed the photos very much.

I think FSUW just enjoy nature so much because all they see in their cities is concrete and tall cement gray apartments.

Posted by: swindoom

Air quality maybe a factor also. My MIL felt a million times better during her visit to the UK. Her opinion was the air quality is so poor in Omsk due to the factories and oil refineries.

I think you are right there GTR, John was telling me no matter what the weather his UW sits outside first thing in the morning to get the fresh air and have breakfast, I found the same to be true when Iryna was visiting me a couple of years ago, she would try and get outside at every opportunity.

So guys, just two days to go. I just read Rocky’s post in the “what are you looking for in a Russian woman” - The complete package.

Well let me tell you, she’s taken control of the kitchen and does all the cooking and washing up. Now, I must have a cooked breakfast before I go off to the workshop.
She does all the ironing, including pulling out my old crumpled shirts from the wardrobe and ironing them. Cleaning the house, although she doesn’t mind the place being untidy, as long as it’s clean. She’s really happy if she picks up a bargain when we’re shopping. It may a bag of cooked chicken reduced to 50p, but if she can add it to something else she’s made, so that the food lasts two day, then she’s really happy.

I don’t need to tell you that she’s so good looking as well

Yes………. the complete package.

Gotta love a womens touch in the house!
It sure made a difference in mine. Now I know that there is a difference between a house and a home. It's not just a place to sleep now. I look forward to walking in the door.
