Arbat Hotel - Moscow

I stayed at the Arbat Hotel. It's ranked as a 3 star and will help you get everything done you need to get in Moscow. They supply a car from the Airport to them or a car if you need to get around town.
There rates have gone up for 2004, but it seems about 4 dollars a day. They have a great breakfast. More than I would have gotten from a US hotel. The rooms are clean and they do have room service. The rooms do look like they are from the 1970's.
Most of the staff does speak English, they have a (so called) gift shop, more like a table with tourist stuff on it. A beauty shop, a bar and will do laundry for you. Security at the door, so keep the card they give you in your pocket.

Down side: Maybe it was me, but they have the hardest and heaviest pillows I have ever used. The showers are a stand up stall which is really to small. One English speaking channel (I think it was MSNBC) There is nothing for children to do. I never saw any when I was there. But kids much go crazy there entertaining them selfs.

Up side: A block or two from Arbat street. Where you can eat, drink, buy souvenirs, see street acts. (very fun) with in 2 miles of the Kremlin, mall, museums.

Recommend: At the end of the block is a restaurant called My-My (pronounce Moo-Moo, look for the fake cow) which is Russian meals, the male staff spoke English and the food was great. A short walk from there is Hard Rock Cafe "Moscow" and McDonalds which did surprise me by the cheap prices. I have ate in the H.R. in Orlando which was on the high price side, but this was a fair price. (shocking) Yes everything inside is American. A short distance from there is a grocery store. All of these are on Arbat street.

Do a web search for "arbat hotel" to find out more.

I stayed there last New Year and thought it was very good, considering it's a "Russian style" hotel. I would have considered it good even had it been designated "western style", come to think of it.

It'd be quite difficult to get a hotel in London that nice, that well positioned and at that time of year for the same money ($100/night).
