Law Enforcement in the FSU

What are the opinions or attitudes of law enforcement in the FSU? I have asked a few ladies for their opinions towards law enforcement in their countries. Most didn't want to discuss the issue, so I am curious. Any feedback is welcome. By the way, I am in law enforcement-LOL.

Basically, they are not afraid to use whatever force is necessary to accomplish their goals. Here in America, law enforcement many times have their hands tied because of "criminal rights" and frivolous law suits. There: anything goes. It's the wild west.

Cheb, thanks for the response and info. Yes here in the US it is very hard to be in law enforcement. I work for the 5th largest sheriff's office in the US and we are constantly being sued. We pay large settlements every year (in the millions of dollars). We get sued and or hauled into court on a regular basis. We have 5 full time time attorneys on staff dealing with law suits. Yes our hands are tied when it comes to dealing with criminals. They have more rights than we do.

Law Enforcement is extremely corrupted in Russia, and has quite a bad rep among general public. Nobody likes law enforcement there.

Yikes! No wonder they aren't held in high regard.
Giving out kidney shots is pretty harsh, especially when the guy only held still and cooperated.

Rocky, here in Dallas they have recently done away with all high speed pursuits. It seems like somebody is suing them for small stupid things all the time. So the chief of police said that if a bad guy flees in his car at a high rate of speed...LET THEM GO! Good news for all bank robbers.

ATTENTION LOW LIFE PUKES:
If you feel like doing crime, come here to Dallas. But be sure that you flee the scene of the crime really fast.

Really sad to see what goes on in other parts of the world. Here we don't tolerate such behavior from our law enforcement people. We just got rid of 12 officers for things they have done which were child's play compared to what I just saw on these videos. We have "zero tolerance" for such acts.

And that is why the US is one of the greatest countries in the world. Human rights here are held in great regard.

Cheburashka,

I'm retired from law enforcement ( Ohio). High speed pursuits are just plain dangerous, for the Public, Officer(s) and Offenders. Most departments have a pursuit policy requiring a non- felony and non life threatening pursuit be called off ( or permission from a supervisor to continue). Some states give greater penalties to offenders if they endanger lives.
I have seen both sides of the pursuit issue, my brother was killed in 1985 in Anchorage Ak., as a result of being pursued. Alcohol and a misdemeanor warrant contributed greatly. How ever at the time, Anchorage PD had a No Pursuit policy, the airport police did not. (long story). Regardless, pursuits can still be necessary but not in every situation, and you can bet every pursuit is scrutinized and require justification. Especially where injury, death or damage occur.

Regards,

Dennie

Here in Tampa the mayor suspended high speed pursuits for 4 years. The criminals took advantage of the situation and the crime rate climbed. Once the mayor was voted out, the new mayor reinstated high speed pursuits his first day in office. We at the sheriff's office continued the pursuits even though the city had stopped.
We have guidelines for high speed chases here, but, we don't let them get away.

Denny,
I remember that fiasco. I hope that the family did sue that fat slob of an airport cop. It was totally uncalled for. The cop had no business doing that pursuit!

My brother is a cop in St.Petersburg, Russia. He's been in the Force over 10 years. The main idea I've gotten from all his stories: do NOT mess with the police in Russia. They can do whatever they want. #1:The police is always right. #2: if the police is wrong - see #1. I'm not saying it's the right way, it's just a fact.

AKMike,

Yes they sued, but didn't accomplish much. Sometimes law and common sense have little in common. It was a long and exhausting experience for my family there.
I still have family there, in and around Anchorage, my Mother lives in Peters Creek.

Regards,

Dennie

My RW says, "All they do is harass people". I think most people in the FSU are afraid of the police and do not respect them. I see people walking around at 1 AM and never hear of any violence so at least the streets are safe ... as long as you don't meet up with a cop!

But see what the Russian authorities think about how the law enforcers treat Russian in the Uk:
