The BBC web site has reported (the title is theirs) on a research project carried out by The London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.
They looked at 1,750 deaths in men aged 25 to 54 years in 2003 and 2005 in Izhevsk, Russia to determine cause of death and reached a conclusion about the drinking habits in Russian males.

Interesting article. Here in the U.S. street people steal rubbing alcohol and a loaf of bread, filter the alcohol through the bread and then drink it. Very potent stuff. I don't know the statistics of people dying from it, but it is cheaper than buying whiskey.
