Hi everyone....

Lena has heard some comments that it is hard for Russian speakers to register for the Russian language forums (because even though the displayed text and functions are in the Russian language, a person still have to register in English....)

So, I think what Lena and I are going to do is to create a seperate Russian language forum that will be compeltely in Russian so that Russian native speakers can more easily register and use it...

This new website would of course be on the same Russian Meeting Place website, and we would put links on both forums so that people can navigate easily between the two forums...

Because we are be going to use two different databases for each forum, users would need to register in both forums to be able to write in both...

What do you'all think?

Would it be helpful for Russian speakers (particularly Russian women) to have their own forum that is completely in the Russian language???

I just found out how to allow everyone to register in their own particular language.......

I think that this will make it easier for foreign language users in these forums....

Andy... I haven't yet finished created the foreign language registrations, but....

Do you think that more Italians would register and use the forums if they could initially register in Italian??

I am trying to make these forums as accessible and easy for foreign speakers as possible...

There are no problems with registration now.
You see there are Russian sections of this forum here, but it does not work successfully.

Hello Mila...

Before I made the changes.... Even though you could read forum pages in different langauges, you could only register for the forums in English....

This made it difficult for people who do not speak English to register (we have heard this from some people who have tried to register)....

But now, non-English speakers should have an easier time registering for the forum...

Do you believe this is correct?

Certainly you are right.
I am not suggesting to open completely separate forum for the Russian women. I am here because it interestingly to me to know thoughts of the American men and women.
Do you think registration on the native language will make Russian forum more effective?

I think that more Russian women, especially those women who can only speak Russian, will be able to register and participate in the forums...

Lena has heard from two women recently who wanted to register, but could not because they had to understand the English...

I would welcome any thoughts as to how we can make these forums even more effective and interesting for foreign speakers...

A small suggestion.

It could very good if the forum had some bilinguist to verify the other language.

I explain.
It could be interesting to se what is written in Russian and can use a computer translation, but if words are unknown or misspelled, or it simple does not make any sense.

So occasionally some bilinguist computer translate it and edit the immpossible parts. Its okay its difficult to read, so its only the parts where its immpossible to understand.

Jutman brings up a good point. I too like to read the Russian forums from time to time. I translate what i can and let my translation program do the rest. It is interesting to read their issues and thoughts. It helps me to understand their point of view better. I think each forum should have access to the other forum as well.
It is a great idea to have a forum where Russians can write and register in their language!!
I know Nadya will find the forum useful!!

Hello Brian and Kevin...

Everyone would be able to read posts on either fourum without registering or signing in on either forum....

So, anyone would be able to go to the new all-Russian language forum and "read" posts there

(using a translator

) without having to register or sign in...

I wish we could combine the registrations for both forums into one, but the forums use different programs, and thus access different databases.... But, people can certainly independently register in each forum if they would like....

Our intention is to have this new all-Russian forum as a place where women can meet and talk about issues that women have and can help one another with.

What does everyone think about this: As long as a man speaks Russian, then it probably would be o.k. for a man to write some messages there? Yet, I want women to feel that they can talk freely amaongst themselves...

I think, it is a great idea, because it might help Russian women who are still in Russia in pooling their resources.
You know, in regard to how to deal with problems that arise. Kind of like the men here are able to do.
Plus, it may attract more women to go through your agency instead of another.

I did not quite understand the part about the readability of the women's replies?
Are you saying, that with the new forum we will be able to view posts either in Russian, or English?
I would like that, because I think it is more interesting to read a woman's point of view in any case!

I think you should start a Russian forum. Because it is easy for me to use online translator to get the main point of most post.

I feel sorry for the Russians always having to translate what we talk about. It is only fair to have both.

To come to think of it this the best translator I have found is at http://translation2.paralink.com paragraphs and is pretty good. I have translated from english to russian and back to english to test it and it seems pretty decent. It also makes you understand how to write more clearly to Russians. It makes you understand how what you write means in Russia. It is important if you think you are misunderstood. You can change words around to make it sound better. Hiking for instance does not mean the same thing in Russian as it does in English. When I say it in english I think of walking in the mountains or desert or something in Russian it means walking as a tourist or walking a long way?

Amyway is good to look at anyway. I would love a Russian-English speaker to test it and tell me how good it is.

I would be interested in what you think though. Some translators may get you into trouble.

I just thought it would be nice to send a message once in a while in Russia so she knows I am not lazy and all the work is NOT her's...

LOL yeah it is a name from a favorite book of mine. It was Raymond Feist in Magician Apprentice. It was a fantasy book and one of the characters were named Bordric. He stood out for me very much. I just remember the name above all the rest of the characters.

Thanks for the link Bordric! I used that translator on some of the Russian language forums here and to my delight discovered even more conversations that I find interesting on this board.

I think it is a good idea Khashyar to have another board in Russian...not only for those having trouble with English, but to also be a means for those of us who are trying to pick up on the Russian language to practice. For me that would be reading only for awhile...as with any other language I have attempted...when I start speaking prematurely in said language...I tend to "Geek-out" and say something inapropriate.

Board rocks...whether in Russian or English...err...or any other language for that matter...thanks!

I know this site and use it too. But to see how good it is, just try to translate a webpage from a russian newspaper or so. Then you get the idea.
personally I use translate.ru/eng for this.

I am so fortunate that I can understand german, many times I found that its more readable in german than english.

What about make a small dictionary with words the online translater don't understand and then suggest a second word we can use.

Just remember that translating back and forth with the same translation program is not a good test for how well it works. Unless you can read the translated text, it could be translating into Pig Latin and back for all you know.

Both your link and the one Jutman posted use the Promt translation engine, which does a decent job. I would recommend avoiding anything that uses the Systran software. I have used both, and although the Systran software has a great interface, several Russian friends have told me that the translations into Russian are terrible (as in virtually unintelligible). It's translation from Russian to English isn't so great, either.

But it does do a nice job translating English to Russian to English...

Hmm

this should be tread alone.

But remember to write short sentence. Always use the most common word. Take the time and check spelling.

And if your russian friend know a little english, then write the english text after the russian in a letter.

When my GF became good at english I stopped write it in russian. But with succes I tried to write the russian word in () after the english. Thoose words I imagined could be a problem.

In the beginning I paid for all translation, until she was good enough to read english. Even then I sometimes paid for translatin, especially if I want to tell her something important, like instruction hwn I come, what to do in bank and so on.

We (the germanic speaking people) has a small advantage, since the russian language is more closer to us, than english. Like the words 'kartofflen' 'ananas'. If you start learn russian, you have even one more advantage. The Russian grammatics (to my knowledge) is close the german.

Thinking of translations, here is what my recommended translator did to Shakespeare

Of course this is old english so perhaps it is not a fair example:
