AP - Simmering tension between the U.S. and Russia over European missile defense boiled over Thursday at a meeting of NATO diplomats after President Vladimir Putin threatened to freeze Russia's compliance with an arms control treaty.

I think Putin should let the US put there missiles in Poland ....and as a jesture of good faith and co-operation place some of their Missiles in Cuba to help protect mexico and the US from the massive Iranian nuclear arsenal.

We have absolutely no business putting anything in Poland. Sometimes I wonder if we are intentionally trying to piss-off everyone in the world, or is it just stupidity?

I also do not think they need anything in Poland.
It dose seem like they are trying to piss-off everyone in the world.

I do believe the US has done many great things and has helped out in many situations,but they are not the world police.

How many more missiles do they need in the world when they are telling everyone else to get rid of their missiles.
There is already enough to blow up the world many times over.

I think there is a bit of missunderstanding here or I have the wrong picture. These are not missiles designed for large offensive attacks. They are missiles designed to knock down missiles which have been fired. Yes, the US is supplying the goods and push but NATO is the body which is behind it.

Yes missiles to knock down missiles....if someone put these in my back yard I would be a little upset also,concidering the history of these two countries.

Maybe the way I am trying to explain it is not right.
What if Russia was to place these types of missiles in..lets say Cuba or Canada.
How would the US react to it???

I suppose that would depend on the motive. Nato has offered to let Russia be a part of it.

The question that bears on my mind is why is Russia so upset...Could it be because they could thwart a missile attack from Russia against Europe?

I guess it boils down to how big a threat do you suppose Iran would be in the future and whether the risk of Iran firing a nuclear missile against Europe is worth the gamble of not being able to defend against it. I suspect if they do develope a nuclear missile the 1st 1 would be fired upon Isreal though.

Well a couple of things i just think are pretty obvoius.1) Iran has no nukes and even the US say they couldnt for probably 5-10 years at best 2)and if they did i think Israel would be second on there list after the US. Saying that Israel has some 200 odd nukes and the US some 5,000.

I agree with you Cheb ...i can see no value in this other than to p!ss off the Russians. The amount they will deploy will in no way stop a Russian attack if ever there was one...why not deploy them in Germany for the sake of diplomacy. I think the whole world breathed a sigh of relief at the end of the cold war....now suddenly we are getting back to deploying this missile system and breaking that treaty. Why?
