Has anyone tried these new Vialta video phones for communicating with their loved ones in Russia/Ukraine etc.? Based on the information I have seen all you have to do is connect them to a regular analog phone and you can actually see each other while talking on the phone. Its apparently somewhat similar to a webcam in picture quality but it just uses a regular phone line and does not require a computer.

Seems like this would be simpler for those lacking a computer or who are somewhat computer challenged. The only difficulty I can see, other than possible connection problems or video difficulties (which you could still have with a normal computer/webcam setup), is getting the other half of the phone system to them intact.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to the most efficient way to send something like this to someone in the FSU?

This is the Vialta website: http://www.vialta.com/beamer80.htm

This is my first post here so I am still a tad new at this. I have found, though, someone that I believe is just about the most extraordinary woman I have run into in my entire life in Kharkov so I find this site extremely informative and valuable. I am really glad that I found it!!
