Need help here folks.
I will be living for a period of time in this country soon. It may end up being my home.
Any advice?
Food, culture, cost of living, climate, housing, customs, type of government, money exchange, anything will be helpful.
This will be in north eastern part of the country.
I'm now learning Russian and it is hard.

You won't have any problem getting around, using public transport, "women can now travel on the inside of busses"

Well I know it's spelled Kazakhstan.

My wife has a friend in Aqtau although that's on the other side of the country. The CIA World Factbook paints a fairly positive picture.

Thanks for the info. You can find Kazakstan, Kazakhstan spelled both ways in books, the internet, etc. I use the spelling my future wife uses.
Thank you for poniting it out to me though.

That's funny, because the Russian spelling uses "kh" rather than "k"...

Stevo,
Type in using the spelling Kazakstan. Encyclopedia Britanica states.
"Also spelled Kazakhstan. Officially Republic of Kazakstan.
Very confusing.

Britannica then goes on to contradict itself here. The web sites of the Kazakh president as well as their embassies in the US and UK all say Kazakhstan...

Nice to see we can have a little fun with this.
Let me give you another example.
I check on the weather at times for Almaty.
My info comes from www.timeanddate.com
They spell it Almaty Kazakstan. They also go on to say, Almaty, also known as Alma-Ata. But yet, they do not mention that Kazakstan can also be spelled with an H in it.
Seems this country has different spellings for everything.

Funny you should mention that... I always knew it as Alma-Ata. There was a football (er, soccer) team called Kairat Alma-Ata which played at the top level in the Soviet Union for a long time. Then it became Almaty, and while I was getting used to that idea, they moved the capital to another city entirely.

Borat is the 6th most popular person in all of Kazakhstan.

Kazakhstan is the number 1 exporter of potassium.

Sorry I couldn't resist.
