I just found something that seems very interesting. There are groups all across the US that get together to learn, study and practice the Russian Language. Even Pittsburgh which seems to seldom have much as a small but active group. (I just signed up) If you would like to find a group in your area follow this link.

WOW very good link,

Sure wish I was in San Diego instead of Norfolk for my employer, there is a large group there and they meet less than 1 mile from the condo I stay in.

But I did just get a email address of a lady who gives lessons in Norfolk area, I will have to give her a try.

I joined the San Francisco group several months ago, and I signed up for email notices of meetups. Somehow I didnt the notice for the last one they had. I think its a good opportunity to learn some Russian and maybe eat some good Russian food.

Most of the people in the group are much better Russian speakers than me, but I think they welcome everyone.

Just my two kopecks

I just found out about the groups yesterday and I am signed up for the Pittsburgh meeting which will be held on the 20th right after I get back from Russia.

The Pittsburgh group is small, only about 20 members (a handfull of which show up at any given meeting) and mostly women. They say they do not care how much Russian anyone speaks or even if they speak it at all. The members they have seem to be a mix, a few just starting and I am guessing a lot of women who have come here from Russia.

I think it will be good to spend some time stumbling through the few words of Russian I know but I also thought if our visa ever crawls out of the big black hole it has fallen into might be a good place for my Fiancee to meet some other folks from her home country when she arrives. For those who would have an interest in meeting Russian women who are already here and who are from places with larger groups that too could be a place where they could have some luck.

Russian language is interesting to learn, it seems so unique rather than english courses, but then english is also important.
