How do you say Merry Christmas in Russian? I forgot.
But I do know how to say "Have a holly jolly Christmas, and in case you couldn't hear, have a holly jolly Christmas this year". And if you celebrate Hannukah have a happy one! I know Russians celebrate on the 7th of January. What is the typical food during X-Mas. I once celebrated a Polish one, and we had Borscht soup and broke bread together and had some kind of fish and some other foods that I cannot recall.... I also love the Polish poppy seed breads, they are so good And I also like drinking tea, hot tea that is....

Schaslivogo Rozhdestva or you usually say S Rozhdestvom Khristovym.

The major holiday is New Year not Christmas. People do celebrate Christmas of course since it became a public holiday some years ago but I personally do not know any traditions... if any are left at all.

Unfortunately, I can't answer your question, but I just liked this phrase. "Gorilka" (actually horilka) simply means "vodka" in Ukrainian. So it's "vodka vodka."

Jill, lots of people I know in Lviv do not celebrate Christmas at all. I asked them today and they told me they are not into real family Christmas celebration but.. well, they are going to have a party in the office on the 7th January! Some of them speak Polish and are real Western Ukrainians, but they are not religious... Oh and they all voted for Yanukovich

That's very surprising to hear, para. The times I've been to western Ukraine during the Christmas season, it has been very festive. Lots of carolling on the streets, and a rather religious atmosphere. I mean in Lviv of course, but also Zakarpattia, Ivano-Frankivsk, etc. Certainly there are some people who are not so religious and traditional (just as there are some people who voted for Yanukovich ), but I think overall a lot more of that has been preserved there than in eastern Ukraine, Russia, etc. And it's not very hard to find.

Thank you lester! I am trying to contact them now, hopefully with success!
