Samovar Russian Restaurant

Medford, Oregon

While I was a consultant and working up in Medford (southern) Oregon, I "found" this incredible Russian restaurant. This was prior to my Russian woman encounter, so I wasn't biased toward Russian cuisine at the time. (Though I must admit that I went in without a clear idea of what cuisine was.)

This is a small family run business. The Father is the cook and the mother (formerly a doctor) creates the fabulous pastries. The daughter works as the hostess.

I found the food to be incredible! I enjoyed every morsel so-much-so that I returned to that restaurant no less than 4 times during my 4 week stay in Medford!

Probably a better testament is this: One day, I woke at 3:00 AM and had nothing planned. So I decided to drive from Los Angeles to Medford Oregon (10 hours each way) JUST to have lunch at Samovar, then returned to LA the same day!

If anyone decides to go to this restaurant, I'd recommend going during the spring or summer. Not only is there less chance of snow blocking the mountain passes, but the Medford Valley is very beautiful. Be sure to visit the Bear Creek Factory tour, (fruit-of-the-month club factory), the Harry and David store, and Crater Lake isn't far away. (It's absolutely stunning)

Thanks for the Great recommendation, Bob

I might be inspired to do the same thing, one day, and drive to Oregon (to experience the restaurant AND Oregon

Unfortunately, the Samovar changed it's format. It's now has a Mediterrean/European emphasis, the name is now is Mediterrean. Haven't been there, but I saw a piece on the local news about the change, emphasis on gourmet pizza. I was disappointed, meant to go there this year, it's 70 miles away from my current abode, over a high mountain pass.
If I make there, I'll report back if there are any Russian dishes on the menu.
