I was just wondering, when Western men meet their Russian (Eastern) girlfriends, they normaly travel to see them in Russia, Ukraine, etc. But what happens when Western woman meets a Russian guy, how and where do they meet? Does the lady go to Russia or do they meet somewhere on a neutral territory? I know it sounds a bit stupid, but its seems to be so rear when Western ladies date Russian/Eastern guys.

The short answer is typically, no one has to travel anywhere because either the Russian is living in America or the American is living in Russia (probably the most frequent case) when they meet for the first time purely by chance in public, or through business associates, friends, etc. Very few AW-RM meet over the 'net long distance and then meet in person. There are some exceptions of course.

Yeah, fair enough. But I was interested in these exeptions, do they meet in reality the same way as AM - RW? And who travels in this case?

It's a good question! I have met some very nice RM online, but just as friends. I'm not sure if I would meet them in Russia because you never know who you're REALLY meeting! Maybe you have to be more careful if you're a woman. I would maybe meet them in a neutral place...

Hi Lady, this is what I thought. Its just men are so easy to pack up their bags and go to another part of the world just to see someone they met over the internet. And the thing is it normaly works!!! In most cases they end up being married. I dont think women will ever do that, meet someone online and then go to see them to their country completely on their own (PS, Im sure there are some exeptions :-). Is it something to do with women being to careful and not as trustful as men? Or is it the pure fact that women are not as adventures as men?

My husband and I met when I was living and working in Kiev. We actually did meet online

but we were both "local" no one had to do more than 10 minutes or so of travelling

I have heard of some western women meeting online and then travelling to Russia to meet the guy, but it does seem quite uncommon. I think it is simply more dangerous for a woman to meet a strange man in a strange country than it is for a man to do the same. Unless she has a reliable travel partner willing to go with her. Just my opinion, of course...

We met online completely accidentally, randomly, and my husband is Russian and he traveled here to USA first. I did not go to Russia till after we were married. (This is all old though, we did this all in the '90s)

My guy and I became acquainted in person in Belarus when I was there visiting my relatives, but we did not become a couple until a few years after we first met.

Because of the visa requirements for Americans wanting to visit Belarus, we both travel when we meet -- we vacation together in Ukraine. (We are especially fond of Odessa and Sevastopol'.)
