As many of you know, I met a RW from Russia and married her in October 2006. As a Christmas gift in 2006, she asked me for a divorce. I hope the divorce process begins tomorrow.

I met a woman from Moldova. We have the same birthday and she is a woman's fashion designer/model like my soon to be x-wife. I'm going to meet her in April sometime.

That's about all the info for now.

I like your attitude GTR. I dont think i could have rebounded so quickly...i think all of us here wish you better luck this time

Posted by: Thorburn

If it's not too intrusive, why do you think it didn't work out?

Do you think you made some mistakes about how you went finding a wife?

You might not want to talk about such things on here. I was just wondering of there were some lessons we all could learn from.

Posted by: andreas

Great news GTR Good to see your moving on. Hope your meeting goes well, nothing like a bit of excitement to get your spirits up

Posted by: markgm

That was the shortest marriage I've ever heard of. Sorry about that :-(

Thank you all for your thoughts and good wishes.

Mr. Mopar - Yes, I avoided the snow and bad weather. The storm split and went north and south of me. I got a little ice, for the 4th time this year. No problem though.

Ira - I was with my wife for only a week so I really don't consider it was a marriage. Yes it was painful but I have a lot of good friends and a lot of support. They wouldn't let me get down on myself or my life. I owe a quick rebound to all the people on RMP that had good thoughts for me and much support. They were there when I needed them. Special thanks to Waiting123, MrsWaiting123, Bob, Mark, Chrismc, Mr. Mopar, and Ms. Smarty Pants.

Thorburn - I think she is a few beers short of a case.

Andreas and FiremanSam - Thanks for your good wishes and sharing your stories. I hope I am as happy as you guys are some day. Take care of your RW and I wish you guys only the best.

RoyalPlace - Thanks and enjoy your journey. You chose the right girl.

Chrismc - My ole buddy Chrismc from across the small pond. What can I say about Belarus. I landed a little west of there ... in Moldova. Like RW, women from Moldova are very attractive!!! Take care of yourself and maybe we will meet up some day. Good luck with your lady and Happy Landings!

Studentka2 - Yes it was a short marriage. She was torn between two men and I came out the ............ THE WINNER!!! I'm glad the other guy has to worry about who she wants to marry next. She has at least 3 other men she is working on.

I just read that ENTIRE thread! All 41 pages of it!!
I could have saved myself the time and trouble because GTR summed it all up in these 2 sentances.

Funny how the wisest comments are often the shortest.

Watch out Moldova, GTR is back in the saddle!!!
Have a great time, mate!

Thanks Thorburn. To tell you the truth the traveling to see a women again just kicked in today. It is a little frightening putting your neck, and heart, out again and exposing it to ... whatever. I have at least 7 weeks to get to know her better. Maybe by then I will have calmed down a little bit.

The woman from Moldova has already showed signs of wanting me to arrive and making my stay pleasant. She says she will feed me and care for me. We talk on the phone for at least an hour everyday. I see no flaws or problems and we have everything in common ... this is how I felt about my wife. Perhaps this is why I'm a bit apprehensive. Anyway, I hope I get past these "nerves" soon because if I don't it will be hard to be myself and open up to her.

Posted by: EasyTarget

GTR: the once bitten twice shy mentality may creep in to the back of your head. I hope it will not make you hesitate and you will visit her with wanting things to turn out very well. I am sure you will be more cautious and that is not a bad thing.

I do know that everything you went through you are seeing things very clearly now. I actually am very glad you posted everything that happened to you. Painful for you, but it will help others learn what to do and what not to do.

Posted by: GoingToRussia

Yes very true ET. I just hope I don't become paranoid and question everything she does and says. I guess she is like my wife because that is the type of person I'm attracted to.

She says she is comfortable with me and wants to take me on a tour of her city and maybe a tour of Kiev or a different city. She knows I'm married and getting a divorce. She accepts that and everything about me. As you say ET, I will be more cautious this time.

I think if you have been honest with her and explained the reasons for the marriage/divorce etc and why it happend so quickly she will understand, especially when she meets you and see for real what type of person you are.

Goodluck Steve.

She understands and I told her everything, left nothing out. She questions why it is taking so long for the divorce. She thinks Lana is lying to me again and not getting a divorce. I think Lana really is divorcing me this time.

Thanks Mike, my defenses are already up ... I just hope it doesn't turn her off. I told her my story and I told her my defense are up. She says it is okay and says not to worry. Looks like I'm leaving April 21.

Good Luck GTR,

Again you'll probably have that "what in the world am I doing" feeling again.

Good to see you're back out there.

I'm sure that since it doesn't seem to scare her off by now she'll be a keeper. Everyone after the age of puberty has been heartbroken so she's aware of the pain.
You'll be OK.

Yes I think everything will be okay. She says if we are not attracted to each other, we can still be friends ... then she said maybe I won't like her and other stuff, never said she wouldn't like me.

I have a good feeling. I always felt Lana was hiding something or something was wrong. With this girl I don't have this feeling, only good vibes. Her voice, accent, and laugh "drives me crazy". Her English is very good so we don't have any problems communicating ... yet.

Yes Mike, she knows all about heart break and understands my position and feelings. It will be hard to keep my defenses up with her because I feel very comfortable with her.

Thanks Mike, I hope she's a keeper.

This is easier said than done. We all dream of living happily ever after and we know that noone is ever perfect. Both males and females get blinded to the negatives by the positive feelings we encounter in matters of the heart.

Listen to your feelings,if it don't feel right......run like hell.

If it feels right, take your time...and learn more about her.

I just had a thought ... I know, will wonders never cease! I could buy one of those portable 7 inch DVD players and take it with me. It would be great to watch movies together because we would have to sit close to see the screen!!! I could leave it with her so she could use it and I could use it when I visit ... or I could "accidentally" leave it in Moldova!!!

What do you think of this idea?

Hi Randy!!!

I asked questions based on my feelings but she always had an answer. I decided hers answers were a "good answer - I believe you", okay - if you say so", or "cold feet". I mean I was going to marry the woman, you have to have trust and I didn't have any proof she was lying.

I know I've said this before and it's still true, I would marry her if I met her today. Sad but true.

GTR: unfortunately the DVD would be locked to North America and could only play North American DVD's. Also the player would most likely be in NTSC only format, so it could not display or play PAL formated DVD's. And of course the whole power converter deal, pain in the butt.

Why can't Europe just admit 110v 60Hz is better and switch already.

I would bring my own DVDs and these portable players run on batteries or regular electricity. Most new electronics these days run on either 110v or 220v. My cell phone and camera do.

GTR I've been lurking around and watching this unfold with interest. Two observations of the past. I havn't seen anyone else ever do some of the crazy things that you did, BUT nobody felt for you anymore than I did when it came apart. I think you suffered from the "Hot air" crew saying too many feel good things at a times. But that is simply my opinion.

I am thrilled to death to see you up and at 'em again. We Aussies are no mans respector, but we do respect men with ticker (Heart) and I see a good deal of that in you. None of us can know exactly what it was or when it was that you missed something critical with the other lady. Thus it is not worth commenting about, but please indulge me to make a couple of observations which may be helpful.

Moldova is a tough little country with some of the most beautiful scenery (Rural) anywhere in the world. It is also home IMHO to some of the most beautiful looking women I have seen in any of 27 coutries I've now visited. Yes my fiancee', who is Russian hates me saying that, but she laughs and understands the point I am making.

Moldovians, generally speaking remain quite loyal to Moscow and the FSU, perhaps more so than other FSU states. Just something to keep in mind and be a little sensitive to.

Don't buy the DVD player and take it there, although you CAN buy certain models which will work there. I suggest it would be a really nice exercise to do together as they are readily available much more cheaply in Moldova than in the USA, AND....you will see exactly what sort of shopper she is. You will learn a great deal about her by the way she goes about this. It's your money and you have the right to say no if you consider her decision or guidence incorrect. Again, you will learn a great deal by her reaction. Wait a few days before doing this, because your relationship is far from established yet. BTW If she is the type of Moldovan/Russian woman shopper I know, she will hunt for the best deal, and I mean HUNT. Clue, wear comfortable shoes because you'll do some walking.

I strongly urge you not to go to Kiev together. Why? She is a Moldovan woman and you should be devoting that time to learning as much as possible about her in HER home environment. Wherever possible meet her friends and see how she interacts with them, watch and learn about her daily life. Learn as much about her city, background etc as is possible. The best place to do that is on HER home turf.

I further suggest you do a little research and discover one location you'd like to visit. Say nothing until some time after you arrive and then when the time is right, say you'd like to both go and see XYZ. She'll be surprised you have done your homework, (Brownie points here) and it will be interesting to see how she reponds to you being "The Man" and taking some control. If she is a genuine Moldovan lady, I can assure you, she'll react very positively.

You are now firmely back in the saddle, and there aint no time for looking back IMHO, but one thing you need to do more than ever before is hold the reigns in YOUR hands. This is YOUR horse to ride in the direction YOU want to go and later if all is good, she will step on that horse with you. Then is the time for making joint decisions, right now it MUST be YOUR call. My experience with Moldvian and Russian women, is that so long as you are not selfish or arrogant about it, you will command much more respect this way and are much less likely to be misguided.

FWIW

All the best. I'll watch with keen interest.

Reminds me of what Paul Gambachini said about Bruce Springstein before he was wlll known.......I have seen the future of rock n roll and his name is Bruce Springstein....same here I have see the future of electricity and it is 240v

Hello I/O,

Part of the reason I am "back in the saddle" is because of this Moldvian girl. She knows the right words to say to make me feel positive about the future. Her life is much worse then mine and yet her outlook on life is more positive then mine. As all the Russian women I've met, they have a way to make their men feel special and capable of doing anything. They are real ego boosters.

Yes this girl is quite attractive. I like eyes and this girl is all eyes ... BIG blue ones!!! I'll be in the capital, Kishinev, so I'm sure my neck will be sore from turning it too much and my body a little bruised from my girl hitting me!

The Kiev thing was really my thing. I told her the cities I would like to see and Kiev was one of them. She says she doesn't want me to be bored because there isn't much to do in her city. She also likes to travel and has never been to Kiev.

I'm aware of the Russian devotion. Her parents were both born in Russia so she has an alliance to begin with. She says she is a Russian woman born in Moldova.

I'm sure she is a good shopper because she lives paycheck to paycheck and sometimes I think she runs out of money before the month ends. She raised a son by herself and the father ran off many years ago. Doesn't know if he is alive or dead or where he is. Many single mother's have it rough in my country so I'm sure it's 10 times as bad in the FSU. I have a lot of respect for single mothers that can create a good home with good children.

Thanks for the kind words and well wishes. I know I'm a little smarter and hopefully all will go well this time.

Yes they really are and certainly know what to say that makes them seem so sweet.

If they are single mothers and especially from the FSU I am sure most of them are very good at and used to fending for themselves with little reward or with little to help them.

Yes Chrismc you are right. I was never bored in Sochi with Lana but she thought I was. She would tell me to watch a movie or listen to music while she cooked. I would actually have liked to sit and watch her cook!

If Moldova is anything like other FSU republics, DVD piracy will be rife, with new titles available for a song. Compilation DVDs of classic Russian films and cartoon series are also easy to find. I don't know if region coding is likely to be used on any of these, but it would be a shame to have a DVD player that couldn't play any of them.

I've decided to buy a DVD portable player when I get to Moldova. We can watch movies on our trip to Kiev and maybe at night also. I will leave it in Moldova, I'm sure they will like it because they only have 1 TV and there are few programs both of them like. One can watch TV and the other watch a movie.

Today I bought tickets to Moldova to meet Larisa. We've been talking on the phone everyday for the last month. At first it was an hour but now I try between 30 and 45 minutes ... very expensive.

I'll leave March 20th and meet her the next day. I'll be back May 7. We are also flying to Kiev for a week to do some sight seeing between the 26th and the 3rd. She really enjoyed the Women's Day Roses I sent.

Yes it is a "rush" ... sorry for the old man lingo ... but meeting someone for the first time is always nerve racking. I was hoping I wouldn't have to do this again and if I did ... I didn't think I would have the same feelings as the first time I went to the FSU, like WHAT THE FRACK AM I DOING!!! There are so many more uncertainties this time then the last time.

WOW,you move fast GTR,thats great to hear.

What do you mean many more uncertainties??Yo are unsure of her?

Good for you! I sincerely hope that this meeting goes well for both of you.

If you need help/guide for getting around Kiev I could ask my DIL about it. But you'd have to babysit my grandson at the same time.

I know what you mean. As you know my last trip to Odessa 6 months ago was not what I expected with the last women who wanted a vacation. At least this time the women actually lives in Odessa and has a good job. And I feel like she is more in tune with me.

But I am prepared for craziness if it happens. I hope it won't , but if it does i'll just move on to something or someone else. If my trip this time turns out negative I will really be surprised. But I have been surprised before!

We'll see!

GTR, just go with the flow. You are allready kind of an expert in this stuff. You know what to do, that I know!

I meant April 20th ... March 20th was wishful thinking!

The uncertainties - I don't like to make comparisons but I think it is ok in this instance. With Lana it felt like we were really into each other and the "Real Deal"! This girl is very nice but she seems very cautious, probably because I'm married. She did suggest visiting Kiev together so that has to be a good sign. I feel we will like each other and get along but not sure about anything else. I guess that is why you go visit them. It was just different with Lana ... but then Lana was ... VERY different.

Thanks RP774 but I'm not an expert. It doesn't matter how much experience you have ... you can always get burned in some way. I had the feeling something wasn't right but she had all the answers. I learned to question your feelings and play your hunches.

It's always good to be prepared for craziness. I'm sure you'll do just fine since you have 1 trip under your belt. Good luck!

Take care and I hope we can meet up one of these years. Maybe a RMP party in Belarus!!!

Maybe Steve....who knows....things are certainly going very well with my Russian lady in Scotland, we are extremely close and my next trip end of March, to see her then again in May and her visit to me in April will give us a real chance to spend a lot more time with each other, we then plan on going to Italy together in July. But more about things later when I can get round to writing them down.

I hope this lady is the one for you and you may also be walking down the aisle this year, but for all the right reasons this time around.

Chris

GTR, I am TOTALLY rooting for you dude - I finally got a new PC at home so I can read these threads at my comfort, instead of glancing from work.

You're awesome dude, good luck

Thanks Gonlaz. No expectations but I hope I come home with a smile on my face. Hope all is well with you and if you need any help getting married in Russia, let me know.
