Hi Everyone,

I wanted to inform you that Lena just received her Permanent Green Card (Permanent Residency Status) in the mail today.

What's interesting is that we planned to go to Mexico for a day trip tomorrow, and I thought that I needed to look in our documents for Lena's travel permission letter (that we received until her new greencard arrived), but when we checked in the mail this afternoon when I came home, the Green Card was in the mail.

Just FYI, her temporary green card expired in early November, and in early November, we sent in the application for listing conditional residency status.

Lena went in for her fingerprints and new photo, but there was no interview required at all.

So, it took about 6 weeks to receive the new permanent green card from the time that we applied for the lifting of conditioanl residency in early November.

Also, for those who don't know, the new permanent Green Card lasts 10 years, and now Lena can apply for visas for her parents to come visit without my help (as well as get ready to apply for citizenship in a few short years).

We'll be thinking about you'all when we are in Encinitas, Mexico.

Congratulations!!!

Did the old one expire after 2 years? Tatysiks will expire this June, after 2 years. It'll be nice if the next one will last 10 unless she decides to become a US citizen.

Thanks for all of the congratulations, Everyone.

Mike, yes, her first green card (the "Conditional Permanent Residency" green card) expired in two years, and then the second and subsequent green cards last 10 years.

Thanks again everyone.

Lena is looking forward to her first trip to Mexico.

Great News! So it took about 4 years to get a permanent green card? I heard it can take 6 - 10 years for citizenship. Has anybody gotten citizenship for their RW? If so, how long did it take?

CONGRATS TO YOU BOTH!

Tanya will be elegible for citizenship June 08 after 3 years. Others cases I understand it's 5 years.
She was given her full fledged green card about 2 weeks after we got here. It'll be great with a 10 years timespan for the next one.

Yes, GTR, from the time that Lena entered the U.S. on her fiance visa, it took 4 years to receive her permanent Green Card.

I don't know exactly how long it takes for her to be able to apply for and receive citizenship (but it would be easy to find out online).
