Hi Everyone,

I just installed an created a "Russian wiki" website called Ruskipedia, where users can create and edit an always improving and growing encyclopedia of all topics about Russia, Belarus and Ukraine.

Please feel free to log on and begin creating pages

This is a community-created encyclopedia that you create and edit.

It can be found here:

http://www.russianinternetguide.com/russia

Also, the forum section to discuss "Ruskipedia" can be found here:

http://russianmeetingplace.com/foru...splay.php?f=317

I look forward to your contributions to Ruskipeda

For the time being, I just copied the front pages of wikipedia's pages on Russia, Belarus and Ukraine... please feel free to create and edit the rest.

Or, if we feel that it is better, we can start fresh and allow our RMP members to create the Russia, Ukraine and Belarus pages sentence-by-sentence, contribution-by-contribution.

Please post all of your thoughts and ideas in this thread, and let's start to build a useful resource for everything Russia that YOU and everyone else in the RMP Community help create.

Also, I wanted to mention that at the moment, the Russian wiki is on the Russian Internet Guide website, but it is also possible for us to create a seperate domain name just for the Russian wiki...

Some of the domain names that I own are:

-russianmeetingplace.org
-worldrussia.com
-russianrussian.com
(and a few others that seem less appropriate)

Or, we could buy a new domain name.

The only thing about creating the Russian wiki site on a new website (aside from the russianinternetguide.com site, is that I would have to pay for that webghosting (about $100/ year), but if we find that we need to, then we will do that.

If anyone (familiar with the wiki software) know how to add images to the Russia, Ukraine and Belarus pages, then they can take the images that are already on the Wiki RU, Belarus and Ukraine pages and add them to our Russian wiki pages.

Thanks,

Khashyar

I can see one major benefit Randy if I am reading this right, once the Wiki is full of relevant information it will be easy to search on it to get to a topic very quickly and that topic will all be in one place. eg tonight I have ben answering questions on ring sizes, I bet if you do a search on RMP there may be 20 different threads with the same information, a bit of a nightmare to navigate around, whereas the Wiki site I think? would list it all in one place, thus creating as Khashyar says an encyclopedia of topics on Russian related subjects.

Of course I may be wrong with all that, but if you use the proper Wiki then the information on there is all relevant, up to date and in one place.

One of the problems with forums is that the information is sometimes hard to find, it may be there but you try and find it sometimes even with a search box it is hard work. If oyu have been away from the forum for a while it can be even harder to find what you want.

Just my opinion!

Chris

You're exactly right, Chris.

In our "Ruskipedia" site, every member and user creates articles and pages of info that you can find easily (like pages in an encylopedia).

The RMP forum is great, and it has A LOT of great information and opinions which you can search for and discuss, but the Ruskipedia will include organized concise articles about all of the subjects in the forum, that anyone can add to or edit.

Hey guys....

I just found and purchased a GREAT name for our wiki site:

Ruskipedia.com (and Rooskipedia.com)

I think those are catchy and fun names...

Thanks, Chris.

The name came to me as I was meditating this morning.

I wasn't getting too excited at first because I thought that the name was taken, and then I checked and both Ruskipedia.com and Rooskipedia.com were available So I bought them.

I also just bought Ruskipedia.org and Rooskipedia.org

Hi Everyone,

I just created a new forum section dedicated to our new Ruskipedia site.

It can be found here:

http://russianmeetingplace.com/foru...splay.php?f=317

I appreciate your contributions to the Ruskipedia site so that we can assemble the very best of the Russian Meeting Place, organize and edit it, and make it easier to find for all of our visitors and RMP members.

Khashyar,so will this new site not take away from the RMP?
Instead of posting here, people would be posting over there?

That's a good question to bring up, Randy.

The RMP forums are about meeting people, communicating about different topics and asking questions and having them answers.

The Ruskipedia site is about creating a clear organized body of articles that people from the RMP (and the www) can go to and find specific answers to their questions, or just read articles about everything about Russia.

Hi Everyone,

I am going to close this thread.

Let's continue our discussions about Ruskipedia in the new Ruskipedia forum section:

http://russianmeetingplace.com/foru...splay.php?f=317

I appreciate and look forward to everyone's contributions so that we can build the most helpful body of articles and resources about Russia possible (that will complement and go hand-in-hand with the Russian Meeting Place Forums.
