Russia Bound!?

Posted by: deee3

Hey All!!
I'm new to the forum but luckly found you by frantically searching for some information before I make a trip to Russia to visit a new found friend on the net. Sounds like a broad gammet of successful and heartbreaking stories to compare my situation to. I met my RW just under two moths ago on Match.com. I was divorced about two years ago and have been out of the dating scene pretty much since then. Out of curiosity I posted a profile and got quite a few responses. My RW sent me a "wink" and I responded to her. She's absolutely gorgeous. I have to admit I was immediately sceptical but continued to correspond with her. After the 16th email we began talking about meeting each other. Up to this point there was a gradual increase of intensity with our discussion and how we were digging each other. Once the topic of meeting came up she said she would look into finding a way to come visit me and she expressed her adoration for me indicating she would like to be with me "forever". A little background on her.. she's a doctor in a small city, Sanchursk, she's 28, never married, no kids, obviously highly educated, reasons of diminished men selection for no marriage. Lives with her mom and Grandmother, no father brother or sisters. We have written everyday with a couple of days exception. The days I wasn't able to write, she seemed very upset like I was going to leave her or something. She went to a travel agency and was blown away by the costs involved to come to visit me. She indicated that she thought it was futiile to try to come because of the prohibitive costs. She itemized a list of all the costs.. 633 for documentation and about 1400 for airfare. She didn't ask me for the money but she explained she was very sorry for saying she would make the trip only to find out she couldn't afford it. I didn't offer to pay but I said we could think of another plan. She wrote back thinking I meant I would pay, profusely thanking me. I told her my plan involved coming to Russia to see her. She seemed very receptive to the idea and has indicated I will stay with her in her family's house and she would pick me up at the airport in Moscow. I have been making arrangements for about a week, but with the holidays it's a bit tricky.
Part of the documentaion and visa process involved having definitive entry and exit dates so I have purchased the airline tickets for arrival on the 15th of January exit the 21st. The last couple of emails with her have been interesting. I sent her a copy of my itinerary which indicates arrival time and depature and she's saying she wants me to stay, which I know I cannot and also to bring documents that would allow her to leave with me. Which I know is impossible. I have explained that I think we need to meet and check each other out first, then see where we go from there. I would think a smart girl like her should know some of these things? Anyway, I waiting for my visa which I put on a fast track but was told today wouldn't be ready till the 10th, four days before departure date. With all the sories I have been reading lately about scammers and hoodwinkers I'm been getting cold feet so to speak, so I thought I'd run it by some experienced folks and hopefully get some feedback. Thanks in advance! D

welcome to the forum,

i'd be VERY VERY VERY (did i say very?) wary of this situation. winks from foreign women on match.com are mostly scams. the fact that she thought she could come to visit you indicates either a scammer (they can't come 99% of the time) or she's naive and being used by someone else. or it's not enough a woman.

you need to ask, firmly but politely, for a phone number. if you do speak with a woman, ask some questions she should know the answers to from your emails. it could still be scammer - a woman being put up by "fat yuri" as they call them.

i hate to burst your bubble, but i'd say the odds are almost zero that this is legit.

read around the scam section of the forum and good luck.

Welcome to the RMP deee3
You have come to the right place! I would not pretend to give any one advice on there adventures to Russia. As I'm new here also, maybe I will after I have been here for awhile. But keep your eyes on this thread you will find all kinds of help and advice. GOOD LUCK! with your travels. And may your dreams come true.

Posted by: deee3

I wrote an email to her this morning explaining that we shouldn't jump too quickly before I meet her on the 15th and that the usual amount of time for even the quickest visa is 4 to 8 months her response was:
I adore your Russian!!!! I LOVE YOU MARC!!!!!!!!!!!
I miss you and I want to be with you for ever. Marc really I will need
to wait so long what to be with you? When you can arrive precisely?
You have received the visa? I do not know what to make now. I shall
make documents here. I do not want to leave you for some months after
you will come. I want to remain with you and to be with you for ever.
I tomorrow shall go in Travel agency and I shall conclude the contract
what they started to legalize papers. I do not want to wait so long, I
would shall make all that we with you were together.
I LOVE YOU MARC!!!!!!!
I want to be with you, I want to be with you for ever and I would
shall make all that we with you were happy. You in my heart and I on
all are ready what our happiness was with us for ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I shall be leave from work and I shall be engaged in trip, Marc I hope
that you understand me. I can not so wait. I shall sell all that at me
to have but I shall be with you. I promise you it.
I LOVE YOU And I WOULD SHALL MAKE ALL THAT WE With YOU WERE HAPPY FOR
EVER!!!!!!!!

Far too overly lovey dovey that letter for my liking. Looks like the classic scam letter. Marc, do yourself a favor mate. Scan through this site: www.russiantearoom.net Thousands of scammers listed on this site. Maybe your one is on it. If you do go over definitely have a back up plan. Find another lady and initiate the contact yourself.

Posted by: Jerico

The letter sounds like some of the ones i received.
How can a woman love you if you never have met before?

Be cautious and if you do go to meet this ( woman ) do yourself a favor and have a backup plan.
Look for agencys on the internet that are in Moscow. You just walk into these places and look thru profiles and you will certainly get dates and meet woman. I hope this one is real but my instinct tells me NOOOOOO.
I have been wrong before though.

Just to let you know the dates do not have to be definitive. I usually add a few extra days before and after just in case travel plans change. Most places that issue invitations will do that for you.

Well now I'm all in a tizzy.. with a couple of weeks to go and feeling like someone's been jerking my chain. Does anybody know of a good service for flowerdelivery/photo so I can at least see if this is a real person.

Posted by: Jerico

Sending flowers is a good way to tell if there real.

I think i used www.flowerstorussia.com I believe.
There about 90 dollars but if the person is not real they just charge you 25 dollars. At least this is what they did for me ( 3 years ago)

I know that feeling you are probably having right now in your gut. It sucks ,I know.
Do your self a favor and start looking for dating agencies in Moscow ASAP.
2 weeks away is not a lot of time.DO it tonight and if shes not real dont let it get you down. Many speak english over there but look for an agency.
You dont have much time so you better search the web for agencys ,pronto.

Dont let it get you down though as the clubs there are awesome and just walking around youll meet woman all over. There friendly. Your going to drop your jaw when you see all the babes in fur walking around all over the place.
Lots of casinos to play in if thats your thing.
They have everything over there but it will be cold, very cold.
Bring good socks , trust me.
Jerry

Posted by: Pin Boy

sorry, but that i love you, i love you crap is just a ploy. as another has said, how could you say i love you and want to spend the rest of my life with you to a person you have never met??? it isn't the vodka talkin', it's the dollars "she" sees by whatever ripoff they have planned.

if you really want to go and cannot get a ticket refund, as others have said make a vacation out of it, try an agency to meet some legit women and be prepared to have an incredible time. just be careful with the $$$. good luck.

try the flower delivery and push for a phone number.

$90??? I reckon go with a single red rose. Will set you back considerably less. Purpose is to see if they are genuine so why go ballistic with the flower amount.

Cant help with any agencies in Moscow but you might want to give Elena Models a try. Many have used their service with great success here. You still have around 3 weeks to strike up a conversation with any potentials and most would be willing to meet you.

It did seem a tad overdone, but not knowing the culture/language thought it could be attributable to that. Thanks for the suggestions. She did call me a few weeks back when I was starting to have some suspicions I pushed to have her call. She did but it seemed like kind of a big deal to her, plus she never offered up her number. I'll try the phone number thing and see what comes of it.

Ya thats a lot of money i know but thats what i paid for the first woman I went to visit. It was national womans day and i had to get something i suppose.
What are ya going to do? they got ya by the cahonees!! Heheh
Now of course i would shop around but at the time that was all I could find.
They did confirm that she was not at the address she gave me though. ie:Scammer
Which started the path to me looking for a Russian girl and now married to one.

Hey, this bears all the hallmarks of a scam. In love with you, visas for her to visit you, young, beautiful, doctor, etc..... come on. I would save my $90. Winked at from Match.com, and she probably gave you her private email address and removed her profile before you had a second chance to check it? Mate, that's how most of us ended up here.

Posted by: GREGK

This whole scenario screams SCAM! I would back off and try and get my ticket $ refunded if I were you unless you want to go there regardless of her.

Posted by: I/O

Mate ....!! You have dead set got a scammer. Absolutely no question whatsoever. Here is her (Or more likely Hairy Yuri's) plan. They have tried you on very softly for the visa and ticket. You didn't bite, so now she is going to spend the rest of her life with you and wants to get the documentation process started. Next will be the hit for money to start that process.

Failing that, in an extreme circumstance, she might even meet you, seem legit and then, oh let's get the document process started. Face to face it can be harder to refuse to give her the money if she is working as part of a group and good at what she does.

Either way, outta that one pronto and get yourself some acommodation booked if you are still intending to go, because you sure as hell won't be staying with her parents......!!!!

Seen it, smelt it, tripped over it, walked around it and stayed well up wind of it, but it is still the same old stuff..................Bullsh!t with a capital B. Classic scammer.

Although this is a definite scam, I have to disagree with posters who state that a woman who winks or emails first time is a scammer, . This may have been true a couple of years ago but things have changed alot in Russia.

My mother-in-law, , is genuinely looking for a western man but she is frustrated by lack of responses to winks or emails. I have explained to her that alot of western guys automatically assume that a woman making first contact is a scammer. I should add she is an attractive 50 year old lady .

As to the first part, you are dead right. Mine contacted me first and I am bloody glad she did. Yes of course I moved cautiously at first, but you don't have to be too bright after you have been around this scene for a while to spot the scammers.

Your M.I.L. will need to be very persistent and patient. The problem she has is that half the "Keyboard Romeo's" in her age group are half dreaming of some 20 y.o. chickie babe because they have been looking at all the photos on the sites and the blood has rushed to the smaller of their two heads.

I saw one guy on a site, and he got into an arguement on the forum section, although he was a half decent looking character of maybe mid to late fifties, over his sceen name.....get this...."Wantarmcandybride" then he wondered why the younger women on the site bashed hell out of him on the forum.

M.I.L. will need to be patient, but things are starting to level out a bit and her time will come.

Posted by: Cheburashka

Go to Moscow anyway! You are going to have a great time, and you will learn invaluable knowledge that will help you in your quest for a legitimate bride.

I hate to tell you this, but I actually laughed out loud when I read what she wrote to you. I don't know any Russian ladies who say such things to a man they never met.

Well it's confirmed...I'm an idiot! I wrote to her asking for her phone number and exorting her to slow down and let's meet see how things go. Here's what she wrote back:
Hello My Lovely Man and My Sun Marc!!!!!
I today have gone in ravel agency and have concluded the contract on
reception of documents. I have paid him all money which at me were for
new year. I have given them 243 dollars and should pay 390 more
dollars that I could receive them. When you arrive to me we together
shall go to Moscow and I shall receive the visa and I shall come back
with you. How to you my plan? It is all to turn out, I believe in it
and I hope that all will be good. I think that better to you to arrive
to me and then you will get acquainted with all mine relatives and all
will be good. I love you Marc? I would shall make all that we with you
were happy. I want to see your smile and I would want that our love
and passion warmed our hearts.
I LOVE YOU MARC!!!!!!!!!
I shall give all for you and even my life is not necessary for me
because without you she is empty. I adore you, I adore all heart and I
want to be only with you!!!!!!!!
You my life and I shall give all for your love. I do not have phone, I
called to you from the public phone but I can not call now because I
can not buy card. I would want that you have arrived.

Mate you are not an idiot and most of us here have been through all of this a different stages. Be thankful you got onto a good and blunt supply line of advice before you went further.

Many have been shafted for thousands. One Aussie guy I read about thought he was being the hero and supporting her and her troubled family over about 12 months before he went to meet her. He parted up with $10 000 over that period. A German guy parted up with 26 000 euro's over about 18 months to another one.

Hail these sites where advice can be spread. I never wasted money, but I wouldn't mind getting a penny/hour for the time some of them wasted for me before I opened my eyes to the real situation.

In the authors situation, there is still time to make some quick moves, either online or through agencies. Or just have a holiday and see what happens. All is not lost and much has been learnt.

It looks like a classic scam, however, have you googled her name yet or relevant extracts from her letters? Although it is probably worthless as this is as obvious a scam as you will get, but may be worth the effort googling her?

Yeah and nothing came up. I just wrote to her and told her that I was feeling "dubious" about the whole scenario and that she'd have to convince me otherwise. A doctor not having a phone at the house? Maybe I'm thinking too western here but I remember a few letters back she said she got a call to come in for some kind of emergency. Pager maybe? I can't decide if I'm trying to justify all of these inconsistancies due to my lack of understanding of Russian culture or just being naive.
At any case the, wind has certainly been taken out of my sails.

No my friend. You are not an idiot. Merely a sucker for the interim. Many of us on this forum have reached that status as well. My suggestion to you is to forget that Ella. End all email as any correspondence will only prolong your forthcoming education and give Boris hope of bilking you for dollars. You really should be reading up on the forum and embark on a legitimate journey if Russian women strike your fancy. Good Luck to ya!

Hello deee3!

I would not like go in details here now. Shortly. This is scam. This american site match.com closed for european women after new legal act after the 5th of March 2006. So, this unknown person "woman/man" can not fill out profile on this dating site from Europe/Russia.

You're all right.. I've gotta move on. Try and figure out what to do now. Got a non-refundable ticket to Moscow for the 15th for a week. No accomodations as yet. Looks like a small fortune for most places in the city. Can't speak a lick o' Russian. Still smartin' from drubbin' I just got from Russian lady/dude. Yeah maybe just cut my losses and forget about it...
I appreciate all the feedback from everyone. This is an interesting forum going here. Think I'll stick around and educated a little more. LOL

Deee3 go! You have the ticket. You just need accomodations, transportation, and some advice. PM me and I'll make some recommendations for you. I don't want to do it openly because it offends some people here. If you get in touch with the right people who can "mentor" you in Moscow, you will have the vacation of a lifetime.

That place rocks! You will have a blast, and are guaranteed to meet more gorgeous ladies than you can ever imagine.

Go! Just Do It! You'll not regret it.

I agree with Cheb,
Go to Moscow. At first when you arrive it can be a little scary ( not speaking Russian and all) I know all about it.

You will have the time of your life.
When you come back you will be looking to plan a trip in the Summer time.
Its a cool place.
Dont let this one bad apple spoil your trip.

You already have the airfare and i imagine the visa too.
Look online for a hotel in Moscow. Many sites for this.
Find the cheapest closest to the center near the Kremlin ( since you dont know Russian and first trip ). Many things are situated around the center of Moscow and you can see all the sites.
Probably more people in this area speak English also.
Anyway just my thoughts on it.
Just for kicks i will do a hotel search myself and see what prices are these days maybe post some results.
Jerry

Posted by: Jerico

Well i found a hotel which looks like its not so far from center of city for 63 dollars a night for the 15 of January ( Best Eastern Vostok Hotel *** stars).
Dont know how it is though. Thats not to bad to pay.
I always stayed in the hotel Russiya which is right next to the Kremlin ( 5 minute walk) but that hotel has been torn down so they can make a huge better one.
Only problem might be getting around in the metros for you.
If you can get used to the metro you can travel anywhere in Moscow, cheap!!!

Just search online and look at many sites as they all have different prices.
This was orbitz i searched but i looked at many sites

Jerry

Posted by: Cheburashka

There are some big blocky hotels out by Izmailovsky Park that have names after the Greek alphabet like Gamma and Beta. Google them because they are safe, cheap, and right on the metro line. Plus there is a killer Dacha right outside the building complex.

Go!

I agree with these guys deee3 GO! once in a life time adventure. Don't let it pass you by. You will never forgive yourself. And when you return you can tell us all about your trip.

Sorry, guys... Just one simple comment. What would you think of an Australian, American, English lady if she had sent you such a letter?
You would probably think she's and idiot or mentally disabled, or vice versa takes the piss out of you.

So why do you so easily assume that a normal Russian girl can write this kind of BS?

And it's not the first time I read smth like: she writes she doesn't have a phone. Guys, it's a 100% rubbish based on a distorted view of Russia. If a girl doesn't have a phone she probably lives in a box under a bridge. But I do doubt that these girls are looking for a life partner abroad ...

Actually, the only case when a girl can have problems with phone connection is when she lives in a so-called "closed zone", usually former military bases which have their internal telephone stations without direct access to international or even national calls. Connection is still organized by an operator. Stone age system. These places also often don't have mobile towers in the area for security reasons. But your chance to get in a contact with a girl from such a place is about 1 %.

swindoom, women winking is fine. All the ladies I communicated with on allsinglerussiangirls.com winked at me first. However, there were a lot who made first contact and left their email address and then removed their profile soon after. 100% of such cases turned out to be scammers. Good ones will usually retain their profiles until much later.

An update on developments.. I contacted Alina Agency to do a little background on the scammer. Turns out she's been busy. Exact same pictures turned up with same name. Hasn't been put on any scamcheck lists yet, but that's going to change. Any recommendations on getting the word out about her to others? I feel fortunate that my gut promted me to research a little and found this site. Thanks to you all for input. I'm going to hold off going to Russia for the time being. I think the middle of January might not be an optimum time to go. Maybe spring or summer, plus it'll give me a little time to prepare for the trip.

You know my opinion Deee3, but we're behind you either way. One thing to keep in mind: prices soar once the tourist season hits. January is the perfect time to go. Moscow is one expensive city!!!!

Welcome Deee3,

Aren't you glad that you found this site?? It is amazing the amount of knowledge from the members. Like Cheb said, Moscow is VERY expensive, but during the winter it's reasonable. If I had non-refundable tickets I would scout out some of the Moscow Agencies and show up in person. You can also find interpreters. You can still met a lot of qualified (serious) ladies, and you are ahead of the game. I still think that the percentages are only 5% of the men that e-mail to RW actually visit. If you are already there they KNOW that you are serious. I think it would be a great starting point. It may be cold in Russia, but the ladies are everything BUT cold.

Good luck, chippie

to JANUARY 1st!!!

You can say that again. I think this is the best that has happened since sliced bread. Without this site, we would all be throwing money into the bottomless pity. We have avoided the Ivans and the Borises, thanks to information sharing.

I am going to St Petersburg in a couple of weeks' time to meet a lady I have been communicating with since July. In a paradoxical kind of way I have a good feeling about this one. We have had a long communication period because there were others I was chasing and I did not take her too seriously as she was very vague about the whole thing while at the same time not wanting the communication to stop.

Funny you should say that GoeastLJ.....I have been communicating with this one for a while but I have probably put less effort into it than I had with previous women and bingo!! it suddenly seems the right thing to do to go and visit her, we have a lot in common, the communications are good and the phone calls excellent, so I am off to see her in Ufa Feb/March.

Last time I went over I had great long terms communications with one, but the meeting was a disaster, then I met someone while I was there that took things to another level, even brought her over to the UK a couple of times until things petered out.

It is funny how things can sometimes work out for the better when you don't really try too hard, maybe it is meant to be? Lets hope they do for both of us!

Fingers crossed, Chris. It looks like things work when they are taken at a leisurely pace. This lady and myself have asked each other question after question and we have almost run out of things to tell each other. And when I ask her if she likes me, all she says is 'I like your letters'. She is very calm. In contrast, one lady from Ukraine asked me to tell her when I would visit her the first time we spoke on the phone. She said she didn't want to waste time! Although I could understand her point, I was well put off. She explained that there are a lot of men who start communication and the just fade away. Women in their late 30s early 40s tend to be in hurry because they think they are running out of time. It is the 5% that is a problem - there may be a lot of us men who raise theies women's hopes only to have them shattered by not seeing things to the end.

Anyway, good luck, Chris.

Lucas

Little update on events: I hired Alina's agency to do a background check on Ella Kolesnikova giving them sample letters and photos and the address she gave me. The agency called me the next day saying someone else had just done a background check on this same person and that the photos were somewhat the same. She emailed me some of the photos she had which confirmed it. All the while I had not let on to "Ella" that I had any suspicions about her. That is until I wrote to her a couple of days ago telling her that the consulate had determined that the address she gave me was invalid and that I didn't know what to make of this and was hoping she had a simple explaination to clear the whole thing up. She wrote back that "she didn't know why this would be, that she has lived in the house her whole lifes".
My following email went something like: SCAM OVER with an attachment showing the telegram from Alina's trying to deliver flowers to the address she gave me. Her response was more denial to the extent she was "going to go to this Agency and find out why they could not deliver to my address."
I haven't heard from her since.

Deee3….Alina Agency….Is this Alina Agency of Yoshkar Ola, Russia?
If it is I fully advise going elsewhere. From personal experience I would not go anywhere near this agency or believe a thing they tell you. If she was somehow tied into this agency it wouldn’t surprise me if the agency itself was in on the scam. A few years back in my rookie stage a woman approached me from an online catalog I was on. She supposedly used that agency. She suckered me into joining that agency and after I did the correspondence stopped. A week later after doing some digging I found her photo listed as one of the employees of that agency. She had posed as a student in the correspondence and baited myself and a few other guys into joining the agency on the premise of communicating with her. Some may say it was a clever way to attract new business but I found it downright unethical.

Anyway I was pissed so spoke to the manager there who said he would have a word with her. As I had already joined the agency and found out it was a real agency from a friend I decide to use their services. Was talking to two ladies. Things were going well and after about two weeks one of the ladies said she found someone else and was ending our correspondence. I wished her well and concentrated on the other. However things got funny after this. Suddenly the two ladies had swapped identities. What do you know. The agency was writing the letters all along.

If you are using this agency for any service at all I advise you to take extreme caution. They are dishonest and rotten to the core IMHOAE and not to be trusted.

Thanks for the heads up. You know..I started thinking about how any of these agencies could be connected with the scammers and started getting a nauseating sensation. Google Checkout called me the morning after I signed on with them and kinda grilled me about what I'd purchased and for what. Thought at the time that Google was just being thorough, now wondering if the've had problems with them. They charged me 66.00 to check out the address even though Marina at the agency told me straight up that another guy had done the same background check a little earlier. They probably just used the same post reciept and didn't bother sending anyone out.

Yes and remember Yoshkar Ola is also one of the scam capitals of the world.

I have been communication with this same woman since January 18,2007. She gave me a wink on Match.com and she fell in "love" after the third letter. It has taken until this week for her to ask for money. The amount 3100.00 US. Before I sent her the money I did a Yahoo search on her name and this is one of the sites I found. Thank You very much. If anyone comes across "Your loving and gentile Ella". DO NOT SEND MONEY! I have several letters and dozens of pictures of her that I would be willing to share. I can be contacted on this site. Feel free to contact me and I will respond.
