Russian Employment Agencies/Possible Scam

Hi! This is my first post on this web site. I hope to learn more about a possible relationship with a Russian woman here.

I have been communicating with a Russian woman from Ukhta in Komi Republic for a few weeks. She has stated to me that she is a dentist there and she has been working with an agency to help her get employment in the United States. Supposedly she will come to New York City at first and then will be placed somewhere within the United States. Do these type of agencies actually exist? Am I being scammed? She has not asked me for any financial help as of yet & has stated that she has the money to come to the United States. But I can't help but be a little skeptical about this.

I would appreciate any kind of feedback to see if anyone else has ever heard of a program like this in Russia or have been scammed by someone like this before. Thanks in advance!

Welcome to RMP Wbe. It could be a scam, but it may be along the lines in Aus where we have a skilled migrant process to fill shortages in certain professions. Just read lots of posts here and look for the warning signs. Good luck

I probably got the same letters you did. I actually had a few variations of letters from a "dentist", and getting employment here in the US. So, my guess it's a scam.
From the scam letters of this type I've seen on the internet, the scam portion comes within the first 2 weeks.
Be careful.

Welcome to the RMP.

Almost all doctors, both MD, DO, or DDS are required to take an international medical board. They are not allowed to come to the US and just start to practice. The International medical exams are of course different for dentists than for docotrs, but none the less they have to take it. Currently the exam is offered 3 times a year, and has about a 75% failure rate. When I worked in medicine I met many doctors and dentists that failed the exam and were awaiting application to a medical school.

I met 1 dentist from Mexico that had failed the test 2 and did not want to go to dental school again, so now she works as a dental hygenist.

my advicek, just be careful. Keep in mind that medicine is a fairly regulated field.

good luck... I wish you the best in your endeavors!

Too early to tell. Many foreign/non-citizens of the U.S. are here on work visas but most for unskilled labor. If she says she loves you and wants to be with you then I would think she is a scam. You will get the "I need money e-mail" soon after this.

Welcome to the forum, be on guard, and put a padlock on your wallet.

If she asks for money for a ticket its a scam. However she hasn’t asked for anything. Advice here, be cautious and don’t send money. If she is telling the truth and you ditch her because you are suspicious you could lose a great opportunity to meet her in your country

wbe0116,

Anything that has to do with a medical field whether it is a doctor, dentist, or the like is VERY regulated. As waiting123 stated they would need to pass exams before the possibility of practicing. Liability is an expensive word in the US of A.
As most of the posts will tell you. if it's a scam, they'll probably hit you up for cash fairly soon. It's a target rich environment for scammers, and RMP helps a lot!
Learn as much as you can from everyone's experience, and the end of the rainbow is well worth it.

Thank you to everybody for your feedback. I just googled her e-mail address and found out that she has also sent e-mail messages to at least 5 other people with a link to her pictures. So this is obviously some type of scam. I'm glad I found out without spending money on her!

Back to start......

wbe0116,

Just another note. Only about 5 % of the men that e-mail RW actually visit in Russia or the FSU. She may know the percentages, and is trying to increase her chances. Does she use the same name with the others that she is e-mailing??
If you are only e-mailing feel free to continue, but as Dave_and_Elvira said be cautious. Don't break the cardinal rule of sending money.

Good luck.
