(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Hi everyone,WOW,I'm the first to post in a new section.

I have moved the date to the summer or fall of 2007 for a move to the FSU.
I have to sell the house first before I can doing anything.

Then I have to find a job.

I am excited for this new section,as maybe I will learn something.

Randy

Where do you intend or would like to locate to in the FSU?

If you should need anything my wife or my inlaws would be more than happy to assist in anything we can.

Hi Randy,

Good luck with your plans, but what do you hope to learn in this section if you're the first poster ??

Couldn't resist it! I'm sure Bing and others will fill you in.

I have done some thinking about moving to Ukraine. My retirement(IF and when) would go alot further there than here. But the down side would be I'd have to get serious about learning the language. I bought an apt. there just recently as an investment and if things continue as they are now I hope to reap a fair profit in 2008 when it's done.
Just a FYI,, The banks in Ukraine are paying between 8 and 13% interest on a savings account. That's alot better than any bank in the US. They pay other rates for Euro's and Hyrivna, but all are more than stateside. I didn't ask about the loan rates but I'm sure that they are very high also.

Randy, They don't have hot Mopars over there. You're gonna have to change your handle!

Misterlada....LOL

AkMike, are the banks in the Ukraine secure, like if it gos backrupt,do you still have your money? Is there a chance of this happening.
Congrats on the apartment.

Ade,Hopfully people will post jobs on here, but there is a lot that I still do not know....shhhh,don't tell anyone, they all think I know everything.

Randy (Misterlada)LOL

I was thinking about Mr.Skoda... But if you like the Lada's better.. Hmm the Ford/Chevy/Mopar thing lives even overseas! LMAO

I picked one of the 2 biggest banks there. And I just happen to know a lawyer that works for them.. Aval Bank was my choice and Private Bank is the other big one. I think they're secure.. Subject to a coup maybe?? I figure that if the locals use them it's good enough for me. Tanya helped ALOTwith all the paperwork at the bank and the real estate stuff also.
I have alot of hope for the future of the FSU countrys if and when they get westernized and on their feet financially. There is alot of potential from what I've seen. Great people, well educated, and hard working.

Good luck to you Randy, I hope you find your Russian Princess. So where do you want to move? I know a Russian woman in Sochi that speaks English, is a translator, teaches English, and use to live in London. I can probably have her get in touch with you. She was the translator at my wedding and dinner.

You can't beat the weather in Sochi ... maybe too warm for a Canadian, but not for an Aussie. The women are also great looking!!!

MrMopar hits Russian streets with his Injected 440 magnum blown big block Lada as he drove down the streets of Moscow the jaws of the locals dropped causing much panic and confusion.

GTR,I am wondering where this came from, maybe Khashyar added it in my post.I will check with him, maybe something funky is happening with the site.

"Where do you intend or would like to locate to in the FSU?

But to answer the question I am not really sure of what country,Russia,Ukraine or Belarus.
I am not to crazy about living in Moscow, but I do enjoy visiting there. Also I know there are many jobs to teach English there, but not my first choice.

I have been doing a little research on some differant cities that I may enjoy.
Richard, one of our other members, has got me interested in Tver,it is a smaller city and only about 2 hours away from Moscow so you can go for a day of shopping or theater.

Some other cities I have been looking at are,Vinnitsa,Kiev,Sevastopol, all in the Ukraine.
Kirov,Volgograd/Volzhsky,Rostov,St.Petersburg and Sochi.
In Belarus,at this time any city.

the one drawback that is often brought up regarding living full time in the FSU is the lack of quality health care available. what if you required an operation (an emergency appendectomy for example) or had an accident? this is something jill has mentioned in some posts.

i'm hoping to spend at least six weeks next summer in kiev teaching english. i teach english as a second language K-12 in a public school. my health insurance covers me when traveling to ukraine but certainly hoping i won't need it. as some of you know, it's very popular for people to walk the tourist areas with different animals and charge to have a photo taken with the animal. last summer i saw some sort of small hedgehogish looking thing being shown off. i kept my distance imagining getting bit and needing rabies shots!

but all in all, i say go for it randy!

Thanks PB,that is something when you get to my age that I should really think about.Health care,it is something that alot of people don't concider before making a move.

I hope to get some info on this from people living in the FSU countries.
Any of you wish to share your experiances.

I've got to say that my experience of emergency healthcare a few weeks back was outstanding! Yes, the hospitals are a little erm, well... "different", but I found that the medical staff were ridiculously over-enthusiastic to help. I also found that unlike the UK where you're more likely to be given an aspirin for the pain along with a "we'll see how you feel in a few hours" statement, here it's out with the big needle and a helathy shot of morphine straight into your glutus maximus!!!! I will add one caveat though - if I had been Russian, I would have been treated very differently.... perhaps the thought of a dead Englishman on their shift put the fear of Putin into the doctors. Overall, the service, treament and diagnosis was better than in the UK (albeit the level of cleanliness was not).

Hey Randy, looks like you me and Rverwind have our own little section hehe

Just do it baby - you'll not regret it... I love my life here, despite the annoyances that come along with it. At least I'm not handing over 40% of my salary to Mr Blair anymore and I'm doing a job I love!

Thank you Bing,I needed the boost.
I'm working 100% everyday on the house that I am off.I want to get as much as I can for it.
It will happen for me,it is just a matter of time.

Cheers my friend,
Randy

If you are interested in Tver region, you should contact Paul Voytinsky. He does orphanage work out there and owns a dacha that he rents out. Don't let the gruff, grouchy exterior fool you. He is a great man to know with an excellent heart of gold. www.unclepasha.com

Thank you Cheburashka.
I have heard of Uncle pasha from some where before, maybe on the site at sometime.

Randy, he likes to play this "I hate all foreigners especially Americans" game. But I guess he had been stuck with trashed apartments too many times from horny RW seekers. He is a great contact to know in that part of the world and has an excellent staff of people who can help you accomplish anything you want. Be nice and professional with him, and he will be a great asset. He knows lots of high powered people....

Posted by: mistermopar

Thanks Cheb,he sounds like the right kind of person to know.
Always good to have someone you can trust as a contact in another country.

Thanks again,
Randy
