It's Next Week!!

Yes, hard to believe that I am headed back to Ukraine next week. But kind of a screwy situation....and hoping to piece things together.

First was my work schedule.......they should have had the new schedules up at work for October, in late August. But managment dragged their feet, and didn't get it up on the boards until two weeks ago. So finally was able to trade enough days off to do this trip.

As for the lady in Mariupol, well, she needs to re-do the plumbing in her bathroom, and at the same time, walls. So the carpenters/plumbers will be doing their repairs.

This is kind of bad time to visit, with all this carpentry/plumbing going on. Plus, she and her friends had planned(for a while)a trip together. I am so angry that I was not able to get my schedule earlier and plan accordingly.

I am going to try to make the most of the small window of time to spend in Mariupol. She wanted me to postpone the trip for another two weeks, but it would be too difficult to rearrange my time off. It would have been ideal to spend some really "quality" time with her, but I will guess I will settle for 2-3 days, and move onward.

The game plan, so far, is to fly into Donetsk, and leave out of Kiev. Since I may be only spending a couple of days with her, I may as well check out places I didn't see last time, and possibly connect with people there. So, I am trying to do some contacting right now.

So, just playing things by ear for now, and see how things go.

A little snag in the plans here. My lady friend in Mariupol sent a mail forwarding message via RWN/Angelika. Problem is, I did not replenish the funds in my account(you pay for incoming replies as well), so the the letter did not get to me. Put some funds in my account, and I was not able to access the incoming letter.

And,oddly enough, RWN was not able to re-send it to me, due to a system problem. RWN said they would be able to get it fixed within 24 hours. But so far no luck. Still would like to know what she has to say, so I can make plans.

Guess we'll find out tomorrow.

Next week, lol Not much time, but I hope everything goes well for you Raspberry.

Mark, I will be mostly in the south-east corner from you, the opposite of where you are going. But I think I might buzz by Kiev on the way out.

Update.....did hear from her. I had flippantly mentioned that it was OK to just meet for 2-3 days, and I would head out to Turkey. Well, she thinks it would be a good idea to spend some "romantic time" in Turkey.

Actually sounds like a good idea. It's one of the few countries we can go together without a hassle(Poland the only other one I could think of). She would need a visa for the EU, Egypt, etc., and I would need a visa for Russia. But the flight schedules are not good, to fit our time frames.

Turkish Airlines actually has some good fares out of Donetsk and Simferopol to get to Istanbul, ironically enough, during the non-summer months. I would like for us to do this sometime. But it looks like it is not going to happen now.

Still, even for a few days in Mariupol, and then elsewhere in Ukraine would be nice. Equally ironic is that all the other ladies I had tried to contact had not answered back. Just have to play it by ear.

Egypt is another counrty that is very visa friendly for Ukrainians! You buy the visa at the airport after you arrive. The sightseeing at the pyramids ect is great and it's pretty cheap also.

Posted by: Raspberry

AkMike, I will have to check the visa deal for Egypt again. Perhaps I didn't go to the second page to see if the Ukrainians are eligible for visa upon arrival. I had been buzzing through all these indexes

Mexico is Ukrainian-friendly, as well...but the problem of getting there from Ukraine is that you have to transit a third country, which can be a problem.

Have a couple of interesting other twists going on this trip. First, there was a major error in my most recent paycheck(about a week and a half ago) As in not going into my direct deposit. Of course, some of my payments bounced on it.

I finally got paid correctly, but the company now has to reimburse me for those overdraft charges I incurred due to their error. Hopefully will get that tomorrow.

Have some E-bay sales payments coming on PayPal, and also have a payday coming up this thursday(which should be right this time--hopefully). Between this, as well as some money from the credit union, I will be covered....but I just don't need this stress right before my trip.

And this one girl in Dnepro, who originally was going to be in Bangkok with her college at the time I would be in Ukraine, had her trip cancelled by her school due to uncertainty over the political situation. So, the timing on that one was perfect as I hadn't decided what I wanted to do once I left Mariupol.

Needless to say, things are getting interesting!!

AKMike, yes, I didn't read the second page of the index....so no problem for Egypt.

Update....in Mariupool.......she's still having problems with the plumbing/remodeling issues(I've seen her apartment), and still has that trip with her friends coming up(which I knew about a long time ago). I understand that she is genuinely busy(unlike the B.S. excuses that is the norm for American women).....but is she thinking I would be disappointed that I would come all the way to Ukraine, and only get to see her for a few hours?

I would have no problem with that as there are lots of other things to do. It is unfortunate that I could not have come earlier, like I wanted to, thanks to the scheduling department dragging their feet. And with family events coming up in early November, and a busy holiday season to follow, it looks like I won't be getting to the FSU until the week after New Year's, at the earliest.

And, I still have not been fully reimbursed for that paycheck fiasco. Haven't heard back from the Union yet, who is supposedly helping on that matter.

So, skip Mariupol, and just go to Dnepro and maybe another city? Things have changed radically, on a day-to-day basis, so who knows? Stay tuned!

It sounds like you're having quite a tour! I hope that things work out.

Posted by: Raspberry

I haven't left yet, folks. Still have a few things to do. My driver's license and vehicle registration will expire right in the middle of my trip, so I will have to get that taken care of. Still have not got back the reimbursement check yet. That extra $300 would come in handy, but it looks like I still will be able to go without it.

But these are besides the point. Had some really bad thunderstorms in Chicago, so I would have had problems even if I did leave yesterday.(Had two extra days off work, which helped.....Original plan was to leave tomorrow-Saturday).

The flights should be back to normal later today. Whenever you have problems in Chicago and/or Atlanta, it does a number on the whole systems, since they are the two busiest airports in the US(and the world---along with Heathrow).

Heard from my girl in Mariupol this morning. She understands the whole situation concerning my days off, and that it would be hard for later in the year.

In the meantime, a lady from Odessa, whom I just wrote two days ago, answered back. So, I am thinking of meeting her, just out of general principle.
After all, I was two days behind on my previous trip, due to delays, and I barely got a day in ODS.

And no word from the girls in Kiev. So, that sounds like a plan. Start in Dnepro, and leave out of Odessa. My friends are trying to talk me into going to Thailand instead(that is the beauty of working on an airline---ability to change plans at the last minute), and bag this whole thing.

But my friends just got back from there two days ago. It would be one thing to be with my friends, but I am in a FSU state of mind. I would like to go to Thailand, but with people that know what they are doing and speak the language.

Needless to say, it will be a busy day to get things taken care of, and get plans in order. Will keep you posted.
