O! experienced and wise pals - I am meeting a girlfriend in Moscow in the next couple of months and I am agonising whether to stay in a hotel or an apartment. This will be our first meeting and she has a young child (2 years). I first thought an apartment was the way to go, but the I thought, it's only for a week and a hotel will be more convenient?

Apartment all the way! It's not even a close decision. You'll thank me when you get back. Plus most apartment buildings in Moscow have a little courtyard with swingset and stuff for kids to play on. She'll cook for you. You'll get to "play house".

Yes Cheb's got it in one.
And dont forget, most large Russian hotels have 'lookouts' posted on each floor, 'for security'.

I must say apartment also, i asked my girl to find a hotel and she steered me towards an apartment right away, much cheaper and I,m sure she will want to visit and play house I just want a basic 1 bedroom as I dont think I will be using it so much, we will be mainly sightseeing or at her flat so shower shave and some sleep is all i will need. Good luck

We had a perfect time..

APARTMENT IS THE ONLY WAY TO GO! Hotels are priced to high and start tacking on charhes that you didn't know were going to be on your bill.

Do you need someone to make your bed every day?

Do you need to pay for every cup of tea you want to drink?

Do you want to worry that you'll come back from a day trip and find some 'little' piece of property missing?

By all means then, a hotel, especially a 'reasonable' one is the way to go to meet these expectations.

I'm going to Crimea. My girl lives close to airport. I get in late at night.
She says, "We get you to hotel one night. Next day, we get you to apartment. Many to have but not reservation. Those reserve not even good and too expensive. I get you apartment for $16 / day nice. but someone to want have price to give it. It not to worry, I know good apartments to have."

Sounds like solid advice to me.
I love the accent in writing, and especially the sultry voice by phone... the soft throat of how this girl talks... oops, sorry... got distracted! LOL
