Bank Card Update

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Thought I would pass along my experience with sending Fiance' a bank card (ATM) card.

It has been working just great, the use fee is approx 2%. sure beats Western Union.

I can keep track of balance on line, however there is lag time between card use and transaction post.

I keep her aprised of balance.

if purchase is made in store, there is not limit on amount that can be used....with in reason.

however if she used bank machine to obtain cash, there is daily limit, i think it is couple hundred dollars.

So far so good.

So Cal rick

I set it at $300 for someone I have had few dealings with, and $500 for a director who I trust. I bank through Chase, and it can be done at your bank.

ATM cards RULE in Russia!

Hey guys when i go back over in 4 weeks i will be taking a Visa Debit card with pin number for N to use but first i need to try it over there to see if it will work that way i can just put money in the account everytime it is required without having to pay western unions fees all the time.

Hey Mark, I had two cards with me when I went. One with an overdraft and one just a Visa debit card. Both worked 100% fine. Yes even with the 4 digit PIN's ha ha ha!!!
With the debit card, you just select withdrawl from savings account and on your statement, it comes across as a Visa withdrawal.
Sam.

Nat knows what it means mate she used my visa a couple of times for me at the ATM,s over there that did not have any English on them you will find the further you get away from Kiev to the smaller towns the less chance of finding an ATM with an option for English.

All the bankomats I used had english. I'm very surprised to hear that some aren't. Tanya is from a fairly big town but I used it in some of the villages we visited with out problems and they all had english!

First visit to Nats small town on the western side tried about 20 of them no English but soon learned how to navigate them after Nats guidance.
2nd trip found two in her town with a button for English one would not except my Aussie Visa card the other one that did work was only 50 mtrs away from Nats place but had a limit of 500 uah a day.
Kiev was no problem and could take out 2000uah per day no problem or American dollars. But that bloody one at Borispol airport every trip in and out i have used it and it wont let me take any money out.

If the ATM is part of the UK Link network or equivalent US/AUS Visa/Mastercard network, you can usually use your card OK as it can connect with the Visa and Mastercard networks. I could use mine in the Ukraine in most ATM's but not all of them, if they had the Link/Visa/Mastercard Network sign then they were OK and instructions were also in English, although sometimes I had to look for an icon or flag to allow me to change the language.

Some of them do have a low restricted limit on them though and others, usually attached to large banks seem to be OK and have standard limits?

Can I use my LINK card abroad?
Although LINK is a UK-only ATM network, connections can be provided to the international VISA and Mastercard networks, meaning that some LINK-enabled debit cards can also be used in certain overseas cash machines. However, it all depends on the organisation that issued the card and whether they choose to utilise these connections.

What does the LINK ATM Network Do?
The LINK ATM network is the most popular cash withdrawal channel in the UK. The ATM network enables the cash machines deployed by different banks, building societies and independent deployers to share cash acquisition transactions. The key operating principle of the LINK network is that "Any LINK-enabled card may be used in any LINK-branded machine." LINK operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year and is a fully on-line network; all transactions are authorised in real-time. The distinctive red and blue LINK logo is recognised by an amazing 92% of UK adults!

I think for US and AUS cash cards they need to be connected to the Visa/Mastercard networks.

I know this is not much use to you Mark but it may help some others on here! especially the UK guys!
