My first visit to your site and thanks for being here.I recieved an email from a free site from a 28 year old russian girl named Anna. She said she is from Yoshkar Ola and doesent have a phone, very expensive she states. We have sent many emails to and from each other over three months from wich she has never asked for money, until now.She wants me to send her over 500 dollars for an "urgent visa"?She said it would be prepared in two to three weeks,is this possible.I have read that for single russian women it is all but impossible to secure any visa. She ays she travels to an internet cafe to write me.I have recieved pictures, none of wich were nude or anything and one with her alleged sister.I offered to visit her in russia, her response was not a good place to visit.People are bitter and many laws ignored, she claims to worry of my safety. She did offer to meet me in Europe.I dont know what to do.I am growing fond of her, just would be devistated if I were to be scammed after possibly falling for her.Advise?

Hi and welcome to the site.
Don't send money unless you never wish to hear from her again. They don't give these visas out like that to people who have never met. This does seem to be playing out like your typical vias scam. You can read about this on this as well as many other sites. Educate yourself and save yourself much frustration and heartache.
If you're as interested in her as you sound then get over and meet her on home turf.
Sid

Thanks Sidney,I have researched some and will do more.I have a rough road to hoe with american women, most of all were scammers too, just more bold. They would look you in the eyes when they did it.I guesss I am just a lonely middle aged man looking for happiness like most others. Thanks again Sidney.

THEOSU- You are dealing with a scammer. It took three months to get around to the request for money but regardless, it is a scammer you are dealing with. Accept this and move on.

They can smell that wafting through the air. They're like sharks, only far more sublime and patient. Learn from the mistakes of others here, follow the rules, and you will be fine.

Welcome to the site THEOSU.

Welcome to the site THEOSU.

I agree with Cheb, they can smell it. I dont know if she is a scammer but it does sound a bit suss. I would not seriously start any relationship with a FSU woman who would not want me to visit their country. Some will avoid their hometowns ( and yoshka ola is famous for scammers) out of previous dissapointments themselves. But change your attitude Theo. If your a good and decent guy with the right intentions you will find a wonderful lady. But if you think you are just a " lonely middle aged guy" its like blood in the water with white pointers circling. We all have our share of scammers and it is a learning curve. Just keep going and be patient and you will find the right one. If you can afford it i highly recommend just going over for a look at the counrty and get a feel for the people. I met my love after i organised my hol,, and i went with the mindset that i was just going for a hol and anything else was a bonus. Well it has all worked out and im going back again soon. Good luck and feel the way you want to be percieved. It will happen!!

Yes ham, i agree, there was not one moment while i was there that i felt unsafe or threatened. Ok the taxi ride from the airport maybe...lol. and i went to 3 different cities. I did see a few drunks....but in no way threatening. All you need is a little common sence and you will be fine.

SCAM

Posted by: THEOSU

I would think a lonely middle aged man would be the one respond to such a sales pitch ,Maybe next time. But I thank you all for your info,I do believe all your responses and I appreciate all.Thanks.By the way I did ,like an idiot give up my home and cell phone numbers. Is this a serious screwup?

Posted by: GREGK

Keep an eye on your phone bill but as long as you did not give out things like SS#, credit card numbers, etc. she/he probably won't bother you anymore when they realize you are not going to send $.

My wife is from Yoshkar-Ola. Great place to visit! Very safe!

Hard to find anyone there now that DOESN'T have their own cell phone.

Unfortunately the town is also the scammer capital of Russia. The local police actually have their own task force specifically set up to track down scammers. The locals don't like the reputation but do like the tourists.

Funny thing is I was contacted by a scammer there that used the internet cafe and the "alms for the poor" scam. Before I caught on to the scam I read up on the area and was interested in visiting there. Just found someone else through a legit local agency.

No, she can't get the required documents to visit you, regardless of the amount of money. This is a scam. And not a very sophisticated one.

Thanks all,I will keep searching, only more carefully.

IMO if you receive an e-mail from an FSU woman...it is probably a scam...i found my wife on a free site, but i contacted her.....IMO if they begin early on to cry poor, then hold onto your wallet....never without meeting anyone, send money...never......there are so many wonderful women in the FSU, but there are also those individuals who are trying to scam your hard earned bucks...be careful, but don't give up...she is out there waiting for you....

Yes, I agree with everything everyone has said!!! She was young (yes). Was she beautiful? Was she an orphan? You couldn't phone her and she couldn't phone you because it is expensive. A doctor or nurse. Madly in love with you and couldn't live without you? Discussed elsewhere is 'What did the scammers ever do for us?' and the answer is they have made us aware of those beautiful, honest RW women.

Yeah i agree, most guys have been contacted by scammers at one time or an other. Most genuine RW if the do complain about things will usually finish off on a positive note. If they spout doom and gloom get on to the next one.
