I will be visiting Kiev next Sunday for the first time.
I booked the flight through Lufthansa and will land at Frankfurt and depart from there to Kiev, Borispol. Can someone tell me if it will be a relatively smooth transition getting through customs? I have read that I will be completing a customs declaration for cash and jewelry on the plane. And I should have a pen with me because most likely none will be provided. Thank you, the time is getting near.

Don't sweat it Ray
While I've flown to Russia, not Ukraine, one thing I can tell you is that Lufthansa bends over backwards to help you if you run into problems, not just in the plane but in the airport as well. When I was stuck at passport control in Nizhniy Novgorod last year because of a change in visa policy that went into effect the day I landed there, the stewardess not only acted as interpreter between me and the passport officials, but she actually went out into the concourse - hunted Liliya down (from my description of her) and explained the situation so she wouldn't worry - while a supervisor got my tourist visa sorted out.
Customs is not as big a deal as everyone thinks, declare your cash and keep moving, if somebody stops you: PLAY STUPID 999 times out of a thousand they will just give you a dirty look and wave you on

They will pass out "passport " forms on the plane but pay attention....the forms look like advertising handout so do not refuse one...they are about 3"wide by 8" long and very colorful. Yes bring a pen. When you get to terminal and go thru passport window then Look up on the wall and you will see a sign, just go to the " green line "... do not bother to fill out the Customs forms you see on the table...I wasted time listing the serial numbers of my camera, etc and went to the "red line" and the customs agent asked how much money I was bringing in,,,I said $1000 he gave me back the customs form for my camera and said you do not need this and waved me on...so go to the green line and forget the customs form.
Enjoy the adventure and the ladies

Thanks for the advice. Can I ask one more question? What about flowers for my lady? Would it be better I get them at Kiev Borispol airport? I don't think they would let me bring in flowers if I get them at Frankfurt airport. There will be florist shops in Kiev also. I would rather bring flowers with me that I have selected rather than have them sent. Larry, I hope you enjoyed your time in Frederick it is a nice town.

You will need to get flowers in Frankfurt as there is no place to get them in Borisphal until after you get into the waiting area and by that time, if all goes well, you will be peeling her off of yourself and flowers will not be on your mind...............LOL

I can't believe tomorrow at this time I will have been on the plane for 5 hours. The temperature in Kiev has been averaging around 2c. I'm taking a winter coat and sweater.
