To those going to Minsk over New Years: Any luck getting a hotel?

Hi All,

I'm having a terrible time trying to get a hotel room between December 28 to January 7th. I was wondering if anyone else is experiencing the same?

I am also looking into apartments (flats) to rent, but I haven't heard back from my inquiries there also.

The question is how do you try to book the room. If its by the net, I could imagine several problems. The most significant problem is that its only the biggest and best hotels there on the net.
if you have a contact in Minsk, let this person do the booking.

Well looks like you are having the same problem I had, in terms of flats, when I headed out there in September.

Are you dealing with belarusrents.com??

Jutman is right, it's easier for someone to book stuff for you who is already there, but seeing that this is your first meeting with this lady, kind of hard to ask her to start doing stuff for you.

i sent you a pm.

I have Alexandra looking at the Hotel Yubileinaya and Hotel Belarus for me. She's going to find out why it's not possible for me to make a reservation either online or through a travel agency.

I have contacted a lady who has a couple of flats available, but I don't know if it's close to the Masherova prospect. (Alexandra lives near there.) I'd hate to live cross-town, especially when it's only 15 degrees outside!

I'll check around. I've also checked-out Belarusrents.com. I think I got redirected to Elena at russianlinks.net when I sent in a request. But I might be wrong... I've been emailing everyone under the sun!

BTW, who is going to be in Belarus over New Years and Russian Christmas? It might be interesting to meet-up!

Bob,

When I went to Gomel in March, I used the tourist agency called Belarus Tourist; they own a few hotels, including the Orbita Hotel and the Hotel Tourist in Minsk, I believe. They responded promptly when I contacted them; my accomodations were good and not very expensive. Their web address is www.belarustourist.minsk.by. If they can't help you, other tourist agencies you can try are listed at www.belarusembassy.org (where you click on the consular section link). I hope this helps.
