Belarus Private Visa Question (possible to receive private visa at the Minsk airport?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Well I'm heading back in December! Though this time I will be staying with her and not in a hotel. So because of that she will be arranging a private invitation for me instead of me getting the usual tourist invitation.

So my question is, can I get a visa at the airport with a private invitation instead of a tourist invitation/voucher. It seems much more easier to arrange all this at the airport. Also could I get a visa at the aiport with out any invitation? Was just thinking if I had to fly over there on a moments notice would I be able to do it.

Khashyar?? Lena?? Anyone??

Hi Laters...

I am not aware that you can receive a homestay visa at the airport...

So, if I understand correctly, you are saying that you received a tourist visa at the Minsk airport after already having previously received a tourist invitation?

I certainly would not risk just arriving at the Minsk airport without a visa... Perhaps it would be best to call the Belarusian Consulate in Washington D.C. and asking, as well as having your fiance ask a government official in Belarus...

If I hear any more information about this, I will let you know...

Sorry that I am replying a week late to your message (Lena and I left for a trip to Lake Tahoe and just returned)...

Laters,
I just returned from Belarus and not one person looked at my visa. I was very surprised. I was told by my friend in Minsk, I did not need a visa, especially, if I took the train. However, I would not recommend anyone do this and this is not the Embassy policy.

Is was my understanding, you can get a visa at the airport only if your passing thru (24 hours) but not staying there. I would not depend on this information either. Get a visa before you go and be safe.

Your friend can write you an invitation and the cost of your visa will be substantial less. My friends said they could write the invitation for me at the OVIR office, next time and I would send it along to the Belarus Embassy in Washington and only pay $40! I plan to research this next time!

Good luck and I hope this information helps.

I arrived VIA train from Warsaw.. three trips. It was in 1999 and 2000. I can tell you they looked at my Visa VERY close all three trips!! Same on the way out. If you do not have a VISA to be there.... you'll be in deep doo-doo.

I agree with everyone on this one..... Dont travel there without a visa they are to cheap to risk having an issue and your whole trip go sour

I guess my question wasn't clear enough. I'm receiving a private invitation from my girl. If I receive it here in the states in time I will of course get my visa here before leaving. But if receive it to close to my travel date, I was wondering if I can just get my visa at the Minsk airport. I know you can get them there if your country doesn't have a consulate of if one isn't near you for tourist and business visa but I'm not quite sure about private homestay visas.
