As we all know, you must register within 3 days of entering Russia. I had travelled there twice, and met a girl whom with I could not be any happier, and we got married. As I needed to stay longer than one month, , and I was planning to make mulipple visits, I purchased the one year business visa. In February, there was some problems, you may remember , as I was keeping members of the forum posted on the progress. One of the problems was having the visa registered. Zags would not accept a hotel registration, so we had to travel 1000 kilometers to Moscow, and stay there while the visa was registered. Aparently the place who issued me my visa used a moscow company to do the invitation. I am very confused about this, but anyway, $150.00 dollars later, and a trip to Moscow, and 7 days stay in a hotel, we had the registration that would satisfy Zags. It was a 6 month registration, so I was still registered when I made a trip back to see my wife in this past JUne. However the registration was good until July the second, and my trip was to last until the first of August. We were worried about this, but didn't know how vital it was. Upon entering the Samara airport, and presenting my passport to the officials, I recieved some terrible news, and thank god , I will say it again THANK GOD my wife was there to see me off, so she was able to translate, and her father was outside in the car, because there was some real problems. The end result after me being very scared was a 1500 rouble fine. I am sharing this terrible experience with you, so any other travellers who read it can be aware, and prevent this happening to them.

I had a very pleasant meeting with an englishman now living near samara on the plane after that, and he couldn't see why the registration couldn't be done at a local police station. Does anybody else know about how to go about registering a business visa? was it because of the company I went through in the U.S. to purchase my visa? Perhaps there is different types of business visas? I plan on returning anain this winter, and I would like to do everything properly.

Hello,

I had always similar problems traveling to Russia with a multi-entry business visa; register to the OVIR was impossible: still I don't know why because either the visa is legal or it is not, and if it is not why you would ever let me enter the country? (they don't have an answer to this question). The only way I solved the problem it is like you did: one or more night in a hotel that can register your visa, and usually they do it for 6 months if it is a business visa.

Of course be careful with the date on the stamp, but as you now know if you are not careful the worst that can happen to you is a 1,500 Roubles fine and a little time wasted.

Russia is a strange country, but mine it is too for different reasons :-) So, take it as a bonus :-D

Wish you all the best for your next trips!

Ciao for now!
