You can buy calling cards for different values to call from Ukraine abroad, I did when I was there and used them at times to call back to the UK. Although they are not as easy as using a call centre which you can find in mots areas.

The only problem I had wikth the cards was that the instructions were all in Russian and when you called the numbers the verbal instructions were again in Russian, but I did manage to get through OK after a bit of a palava.

You have to watch that the access numbers you call are still valid though, I had to get a lady to call it for me first to sort it out first time before I could use the card.

You can buy different value cards in all the kiosks and underground stations etc.

While you are there you can get calling cards that have the American Flag on the front and they are titled Call home.

My wife uses these and I bought on in Kiev. They are about 10 USD and last about 3-3 1/2 hours

You can usually buy them at the little stores in the metro stations.
