It's been discussed for quite a while here. I believe the main reason it has not been implemented is that the management likes to have all of the information that's passed around in the forum to be achived -- and easily searchable. Stuff from chat always seems to just fall off the edge of Cyberspace.

it is being looked at but its more of a moderation problem
means haveing 1 or 2 mods available all the time & we do have families aswell

Bob

I am no expert and have not been in chat rooms for years, I am surprised though, you really think that it will be possible to moderate a chat room ?

Yes I agree with that Connor....the more actual good quality information in the forums the better for everyone. I doubt I for one would use the chat thing anyway and as Bob says moderating it would end being nearly a full time resource for someone!!!

hi jc
mate i only arrived home this evening, so a bit out of touch
under our forum guidelines we would have to attempt moderation of a chat room.
it's easy to say people would behave but i'v seen how threads can degenerate so chat could get there a whole lot faster & serious conflict or snipeing at another member isn't allowed here.
i do think moderation will be the biggest problem but it is realy up to khashyar

I doubt Bob that anyone would have the spare time to moderate it thoroughly and effectively. Just my opinion!! and how many would use it anyway??

Hi,
probably alot of ppl will use it
Well the idea of make a chat room in this site isnt bad at all some reasons im saying this is:
1 - There's alot of ppl here from different countrys
2 - Would make this community grow even faster
3 - Your able to make new friends more easely and fast to etc etc etc
4 - You have full control in all ppl are in there, i mean you can kick them, or even ban them using their IP (but like sum think they are smart in changing their IP, there is always the way in Ban the ISP to of that person) but i should say this should be used only on last resort
5- Have to be 1 Moderator in there at least to make sure its a nice place to every1 there etc

Now you can always ask for sum volunteers to help in there, bcoz in sum way there is quite alot of ppl here from different countrys, and ofcourse with different times to (Time Zone) so i guess that isnt bad to.
Anyway this is just my 2 cents

Actually, experience has shown that very few people will use it. I have participated in several active forums (all with a sizable international population), and the chat rooms are usually vacant. Even when there is a set day/time (Sunday evenings, for example), you are lucky if you find anyone using the chat function.

The site being international in nature is actually a detriment to real time chat, due to time zone differences. While it is evening in Europe, people are at work (or enjoying their sunny weekend day) in the Americas. By the time they come home, it is very late at night across the Atlantic.

Yes I agree with that Connor....but what about one for say just for weekends, for people who want it?? you still have the mod problem though?

This is a no brainer. Why don't the people who like to chat just go to Yahoo Chat or ICQ and open up a RMP room?
