Pimsleur: English for Russian Speakers

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Hi All!
Myself and some others have been searching for "English for Russian Speakers" through various means including torrents without much success to date.
I have found Original copies on ebay for US$179.95+postage or AUST$242.42+postage. (RRP 319.95 AUST)

Now I'm thinking that there are probably a few members out there who have a copy of these 16 CD's so their better halves can learn English and are concerned that their original copies might somehow become damaged and as such, would be interestead in having back-up copies made, just in case their original cd's become unusable.

Remembering that to copy software that is not originally owned is illegal, I was wondering if there were members of the forum who would like a back-up of these cd's and if so, maybe you would be interested in helping me purchase a full set of disks so I could send you your back-ups (just in case).

Remember, it is illegal to own a pirate version of such software!
Only respond if you are an original owner of the cd's and require a backup
I will inform all interested members of the final cost before commiting to the venture.

Interested (original cd owners) members please reply via PM, remember, the more the cheaper!!

I think my keyboard must be broken, I don't undersand why there are so many winks in my post!!!!!

Have you thought about converting these audio files to mp3 so that the back-up only takes 2 cd's or 1/2 a dvd??

Can I have a free back-up for thinking of this ??

Depends on the codec and bitrate, I have the Pimsleur Russian for English speakers coded using mp3Pro @ 64kbps and it is as good as the original; you only need higher bitrates for music.
At this bitrate it comes to... mmm, sorry 1.7 gig, might just squeeze it onto 2 800mb discs by over burning but probably 3.

Still it's a lot easier carrying a couple of SD cards and a player than 16 cd's and a discman.

This series is awesome... fits on my ipod nano like a champ!

You need to be careful with how low you go on the bitrate. Personally I am aware that there are many older (i.e. just over 12 months old) stereos that will not play any MP3 tracks under 128 kb. My old player in my car had difficulty with 40 kb bitrate files. I think we need to remember that our beloveds in the FSU may not have equipement that will easily play a lower bitrate. Just another thing to think about.

How are you guys doing on this? I bought the "Basic" version last week. I received it last night and completed the first two lessons. I already knew all the words in these lessons, so I do not know how effective it really is yet. I think it will be helpful, but we'll see...

There's somebody on ebay selling "backup" copies of Pimsleur Russian Comprehensive Levels 1 and 3 (I think) for about 25 usd each. I emailed the person, and they said they are on a single CD (originals are in CD format apparently - 16 CDs) in MP3 format. I bought one...see how it goes.

Hi guys

can any one tell me how many units there are in the English for Russian Speakers?
In the Russian for English Speakers there seems to be between 26 and 30 half hour lessons, in the one to three series
thanks John

Hey JJ.
There are 30 lessons in the English for Russians set.
There does not appear to be 3 levels like in the Russian for English series. (at least from what I can see)
Hope this helps!
Sam.
