Minsk airport visa?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Hello everybody :-)
I've just come across this site as I am going to Belarus in September to meet the most beautiful woman in the world :-))))))
There is no Belarus Embassy in Dublin and I don't fancy posting my passport et al to London....From what I can gather a visa can be acquired on entry at Minsk airport. Any information, anybody?
Great site by the way.....

My second trip to Belarus is comming up, and while I don't like the idea of sending off my passport. If you do not have a visa before you go they most cetainly will not let you in. You can and must buy insurance once you get there, but without a proper visa it might be a disappointing trip.

PS Welcome to The Russian Meeting Place!!!!!!

Oh,oh.....I was under the impression that if you are from a country with no Belarusian Embassy you can get a visa at the airport once you have your invitation etc.?
It's all a bit confusing really!!!

try www.gotorussia.com not completely sure if they can help you with a visa to belarus but they may be able to point you in the right direction. not 100% sure, but i am fairly certain that you cannot get a visa once you are on the ground in the airport in belarus. most likely you would be sent away.

OK, I had a bit of a poke around and found this info on http://www.belarustourist.minsk.by/.../visit/visa.htm

Quote:
To enter Belarus you are to have Belarusian visa. There are different kinds of visas, but the easiest one to get is the Tourist visa. Usual tourist visa is a one entry visa, allowing you to stay in Belarus up to 30 days.

.....If you are from a country with no Belarusian Embassy....

At the airport Minsk-2 on your arrival. There is a Consular Point at the airport Minsk-2 where they grant visas before passport control. In this case you need the original voucher and invitation to be delivered to the Consular Point by a travel company's representative half an hour before your plane landing. Our representative can bring the papers, meet you and transfer to the hotel or apartment in Minsk. This way of getting visa is very convenient for those who live far from the Belarusian embassy or are short of time.

I bolded that bit because it looked important to me.. lol!!

Also I found this on an Aussie site (we have no embassy here either)http://www.russian-gateway.com.au/c...elarus/visa.htm

Quote:
As there is no Consulate or Embassy of Belarus in Australia it is not possible to obtain a visa for Belarus. However it is possible to obtain a visa on arrival. To obtain a visa on arrival it is necessary to obtain an official invitation from an organisation to sponsor you in.

Gateway Travel can help you with this. The following details are required:

Copy of your passport.
A visa can only be issued on arrival if all accommodation has been prebooked and prepaid in Australia
The cities you will be visiting. It is preferable if Minsk is on your itinerary. Please include all cities.
An invitation can only be issued if everything has been prebooked and prepaid in Australia.

The visa is obtained on arrival at Minsk International Airport. Visa fee varies.

The inviting organisation must do registration with OVIR within 2 days of arrival. You will be given the invitation. The sponsoring firm will charge a service fee. Costs for registration vary and are subject to change.

If you leave the country without registration you may be fined. likewise if your visa runs out, you will have problems.

So yes, it is possible! But you can't just rock up and expect one, it must be organised by someone,(read, company), in advance for you to pick up on arrival.

Hope this helps,
Sam.

Thanks guys.Kinda lost this thread for a while as I posted it again in the Irish section.....and Neil came to the rescue over there :-)
Fireman Sam. Looks like you went to a bit of trouble on my behalf so cheers mate (read that in an Oz accent).
I think I'll go the old post to London route?
My Lady's on holiday at the mo, or rest as they so quaintly describe it:-)
She's making it to an internet cafe every few days and sending me short messages but I have a feeling she's kind of strapped for cash (Hasn't asked me for a penny though! !). Seems like even receiving an sms costs her!
She's on her way to Turkey with her daughter but is with relatives in Russia now. She wanted me to join them in Turkey next week but it is too short notice for me with work and all. I'm wondering if she's suffering from the oft reported delusion that ALL western men are loaded and can jet off anywhere at the drop of a hat with the platinum credit-card :-)))))
I told her straight off in my first letter that I was not a millionaire....maybe that was the wrong choice of words?

Posted by: firemansam

Na hMate, I don't think it was a bad choice of words and I can also tell you that it took me very little time to find that info.
Maybe with a few minutes up your sleeve you can avoid the postal issue if you google your needs? Maybe not....
Either way, I am glad we could help you and I hope your trip goes well!!!!!!
Cheers mate,
Sam.
